I've just realised Sega doesn't have much planned for DS/PSP

SegaR&D

Newcomer
Feel the magic is out, there's that sonic game, then there's puyo puyo for both systems.

Then there's nothing else.

Its as if they've got other plans.

Hmm..

Sega's confirmed another game for the PSP under the working title Project S "that takes advantage of PSP technology," as well as Project Rub in development to take advantage of the DS's unique features to a larger degree.

While six games over an unknown number of months is not particularly impressive for Sega, it's hopefully going to bear fruit as being more interesting than "a quick fix" games, and does not show that they're ignoring the platforms.

Still, I would have expected some Monkey Ball announcements by now. ;)

There is more for the PSP as well, but they all pretty much just have short descriptions rather than any real expectations right now.

Project Rub was the working title for Feel the Magic actually. Here's their announced lineups for both machines...

Nintendo DS
-Feel the Magic: XY-XX
-Multiplayer Sports Game
-Puyo Pop Fever
-Sonic DS
-TV Character Action Game

PSP
-Digital Pet
-Graphic Adventure Game
-Multiplayer Sports Game
-New Communication Game
-Project S
-Puyo Pop Fever

...plus Sammy's planning a Fist of the North Star Pachislot game for each, which Sega should be publishing.

Not surprising, really. Sega is a shadow of its former self. The last two-three years speaks volumes to that.

They do have other plans. It's called the next generation where they wiull focus much more on making compelling games with a technical edge. I'm pretty sure SEGA's figured out that this generation is all but a lost cause for them. There is nothing to prevent then making a big splash and comeback in the next generation if they were to gain back their technical edge and led in the way of making great games again. Of course they can mess that all up just like they've messed things up since the beginning of them giong software only.

ironic that i had this same revelation today. i was thinking of NDS games i would like to see, and a slew of sega rpg's (shining the holy arc being one), nights, and shinning force 3 (with all 3 chapters) sprang to mind. then i found myself amazed that sega had announced so little for either platform, especialy with the amount of support they gave n-gage's launch.

and why hasn't nintendo ported mario paint yet? and no company has ported a casino & board game collection that uses the touch screen.

While Sega Sammy has the resources to support their own portable and compete, the smartest thing to do would be to get the backing of an established brand. The perfect opportunity exists with Apple's iPod, a line with proven mass market success in the high-end mobile space and ripe for expansion from music into gaming as an onslaught of portables/phones/PDAs have come to challenge. In order to avoid the roasting that Nokia's N-Gage and their own Pippen received though, Apple too would need the benefit of an established partner, and SEGA is just that company with their expertise and hardware R&D infrastructure.

I've lost all hopes on Sega at the current time.

I did not even bother to buy Sonic Heroes, something I would not even have thought possible a few years ago.

I've heard rumors of a Phantasy Star Online for the DS. Haven't heard anything in months so dunno what happened to it.

I'd say the rumor's credible since it came from the same source that revealed Puyo Puyo was headed to DS too. Likely Sega's waiting on Nintendo to reveal their online DS strategy (which Square Enix might also be involved in).
