Is Xbox One like Steam?

It's like Steam with an offline mode which stops working when it can't call home for 24 hours (at least that's the latest information from Microsoft, but they seem to still be thinking about how to do the DRM exactly).

If XO is like Steam, and this approach have some benefits, like on Steam, I don't know why people is angry. I mean, Steam users are not angry paying for games with DRM.

I like the Xbox/Xbox 360 distribution model, but Steam is a successful model on PC.

Care to elaborate on exactly what sucks about Steam?

It doesn't, because the prices are good :)

Overall I like digital games platforms. Anything where you can download and try games quickly is a good service. With caveats of course.

There's not much that's good about DRM for consumers. And there's no guarantee profit gained from having DRM in place will go back to consumers either. Luckily Steam has done it in a way that's pretty acceptable.

Not a big fan of Steam either, but I want an offline mode, like Steam, for when I am on vacation or a similar situation where I don't need to worry about having an internet connection.

Calling it Steam is trying to put a smile on the situation I think. Steam lives in it's own little pretty PC world and has many benefits and some drawbacks.

One of the "not" drawbacks is not having a camera watching you the entire time.

If Xbox One is Steam, then would PS4 be GOG (except with as many games as the competition)?

I dunno my tablet and laptop both have a camera so steam could be watching me as I play. Same goes with my phone.

PS4 could be GOG but it could also be Sim city . Sony is to cowardly so far to give a firm stance on used games and drm.

I can´t understand how a camera can change the media distribution :?:

How does Steam pricing work? There's a rumour, or a story that said, MS will allow publishers to set their own prices.

3. Who sets the price for my game on Steam?

Pricing is very title specific, and we've got a lot of data and experience to help you decide on what the best price is for your title. We'll work with you to figure out pricing.

4. What is your revenue split?

We don't discuss our revenue split publicly. Once your game goes through Steam Greenlight, we'll get to those details.

5. Do the steam royalties apply before or after VAT/country specific taxes?

Taxes are removed before calculating royalties.

6. What is the common payment interval and can we group transactions to minimize banking fees?

We make monthly statements and payments.

7. What other fees come out of my revenue share?

There are some specific adjustments made depending on such things as fraud and returns and these are outlined more fully in our distribution agreement that we will send to you if your game is going on Steam. We do not make deductions for marketing or bandwidth.

but does Xbox 1 still allow fake region gamertag?

on xbox 360 i can easily create fake USA gamertag. But on Steam i dont understand how, its automatically detect my region when i browse the web.

noticable when some website say "GAME XXX DISCOUNT blah blah blah" and when i see the link, its not discounted. Its rare, but when its happen, its annoying.

I admit I dont have a lot of experience with steam but the "great pricing" seems sort of untrue.

I remember going on there and seeing some game 49.99 on steam and 29.99 on Amazon for the physical copy (which is superior in some respects). I want to say it was Portal 2...sure a random snapshot in time but I've never really seen much to dissuade me.

Like most digital services steam seems to stick to MSRP stringently for recent releases and you can often find cheaper physical copies.

Then, there's the famous steam sales...but from what I gather they've declined in quality, and even at best were sort of a grab bag as far as quality. 90% rubbish and 10% anything good. Getting some game you dont really want for 99 cents leads to the whole "how many of your steam games have you bought but never played" threads on neogaf.

Steam is not interesting for new games, not really for old games either ... but it's more convenient than diving the bargain bins in shops.

49.99? it is a lot! generally the games for PC are cheaper than console version.

Steam is most likely detecting your IP address and deriving your location from that. I would be careful if you want to defeat this system with proxies however, as Steam considered that to be a ban-able offense. Here's a forum post over it: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3009074
