Is it possible for a regular DVD player playing HD AVI files?

I have something that's beyond 480p, but not 720p either. I want to try play it on my DVD player (it accepts AVIs), but will the higher resolution work on it?

I can play 720p HD Xvid files on my DVD player but it outputs as 480p AFAIK.

depends on the dvd player. especially ones with vga output might actually have higher res than pal.

I don't know about other players, but Philips 5990 plays WMV HD clips from MS site.
