Is anyone using the Wii News Channel?

I thought it was rather crap to be frank.
Maybe it was because I only had composite video cable for my little Wii.

However I took a second look yesterday using component and lo and behold. It's actually great. :)

Articles are long and it's easy to navigate around using just the wiimote. I love that actually. Just using the D-pad and A/B buttons. I even listened to a commentary track on a DVD I played on the PS3 with the Wii showing news in the PiP window.

I think that scores pretty high on the geek scale!

Wiimote is one o fthe greatest inventions in console gaming IMO. It fits so nicely in the hand and feels very solid and comfortable. I want a game that uses only wiimote and not the nunchuck at all.
Peace.

I think the best part about it is how they visually show WHERE the news events have happened. Showing it on the globe is really cool.

Gooooooosh <sigh, sigh, sigh>

I think I'm going to go gorilla and actually try to get one (by going early to stores). I decided to just be patient and wait until supply reached walk in and find levels. But I swear Nintendo is doing this for marketing purposes, to claim that they can't supply enough of their hot seller, and stretch its freshness in the consumer conscience. I thought the damn thing was easy to produce....arggh I want one to play Super Paper Mario!!!

Name another console maker who produced and sold 6 million consoles worldwide only 4.5 months after launch. I can't. ;)

I can't name one either, but I was under the impression that Wiis are relatively easier to produce than the other systems. I'm willing to bet that they have produced more than we are lead to believe and are saving them for the second quarter (which is now). I guess my conspiracy theories are more a result of never seeing one and being a big baby;)

Doesn't the fact that no other console maker has shipped 6 million consoles, 4.5 months after launch lead one to the conclusion that the Wii is relatively easier to produce than the other systems? :)

Yes. The reason I believe the Wii is easy to produce is because it has been said that it is and Nintendo proved that it is. Where we differ is in expectations. Maybe it is unreasonable to think they can produce even more than they have but that it is what I am guessing - that they can and probably have.:yep2:

OT

Although the Wii chips are probably much easier to mass-produce than the exotic wonders found in other consoles (CELL, Xenos, BR diodes...), there is a lot more involved into manufacturing/packaging/shipping a console than producing the chips (although it's certainly one of the major bottlenecks for most consoles). Peter Moore when asked about 360 shortages once said something like : "When you build a console with 1700 parts, and only 1699 show up, you still can't ship.":D

Even if the yields on CPU/GPU are good, and assembling is easy, there is a physically limited amount of consoles that you can go through an assembly line each day. Building additional factories costs a lot and takes time, and you run the risk of having too much production capacity when demand starts going down. Still, Nintendo seems to supply more than its competitors, which is a nice testimony to the incredible demand for Wii and DS (I think they ship over 1 million Wiis each month, and 2.5 millions DS, which makes 42 millions consoles a year, not counting various models of GBA still being produced).

Back on topic : I use the News channel (like it a lot), but not everytime I turn the Wii on (unlike the weather channel and the Everybody Votes channels, which I check nearly everyday).

I want one. Seriously, its on the list: 1.) Monitor - This weekend 2.) Dx10 Card, whenever AMD's ships and I can decide between Nv and AMD. 3.) Wii!!!!

It's has been said that they have purposely created shortages so it's a valid theory.

Some game business blokey said he thought the same - withholding of stock for the sake of financials. Don't see the point myself. Breaking targets and not having to pay for warehouse storage strike me as good things!

But this is all OT. Anyone using the Wii channels? My friend hasn't touched his Wii in ages. He's on XB360 now. It might come out again when Wii Play+Wiimote becomes available.

I say all unwii(ified) B3ders go to your local electronic stores this weekend and see if you can stroll in and find stacks of wiis. According to my theory you will find them;)

Yeah sorry folks, Rainbow Man has a fun topic and I have begun to soil it. I will go away and lurk in the shadows.

I did for a while until my dog peed on my wireless router :devilish:. At least I can still play Super Paper Mario when it comes out.
