Interview With Xbox's European Manager

we should start a petition or some sort to stop the pc game ports to consoles..

a few games are ok , but when half of your games are available on pc also, there is a problem I think.

Don't you think those sentences are contradictory? Your saying PC gaming is popular in germany and then you're saying MS needs to broden thier portfolio and stop flooding you with PC ports? If PC gaming is popular that means PC style games are popular.

I think he's saying there's less incentive for people who are already very PC-centric to pick up a 360. That the library needs to distinguish itself more clearly from what people already have access to it elsewhere, to a considerable degree (at least amongst higher profile releases). I think that's true, it's certainly been true in my own case. None of the recent big games released on 360 have been incentive for me to buy one of my own (e.g. Oblivion, Tomb Raider, GRAW), simply because they're nearly all available on PC, or will be shortly. If a lot of gamers in Germany are big PC gamers, then I can see how the scenario that is painted above can be true for them.

It distinguishes itself by the price of the hardware. Not everyone can afford a top end gaming rig. If Germany is very PC centric, pc>360 ports can only be a good thing as they provide a fairly low cost method of playing your favourite games.

I'll agree that there needs to be a lot more titles exclusive to 360 to make a difference to the PC crowd.

OTOH, I think MS is happy to see PC gaming doing well also and it makes their Devs happy to use XNA to sell more software.

I also agree with Scooby that cost of upgrading may direct some toward a 360. That's why I no longer bother to upgrade my PC. I'm happier(with less headaches) on a console. I spend enough time at this insipid desk as is. :p

But if people already have the PC..? That's the point. As someone with a decent PC, it rings true - or at least it takes the edge of any urgency to take the plunge just yet. I'm guessing that ElStupido's point is that many gamers in Germany do have at least adequate PCs.

On a broader note, simply to play these games at all doesn't, in many cases, require a high-end PC or next-gen console. If you had a PC and current gen systems, you'd be pretty decently covered for now, even if you were missing some icing (which isn't unimportant, particularly for someone like me, but i guess that depends on one's individual setup, and I can see it not being such a big deal for others). IMO 360 definitely does need more definitively exclusive content to define the system and its library. Currently it seems to be largely composed of "blow-ins", albeit in some cases, prettier ones :)

No I don't think that's the case. I've never seen MS state that they will support HDMI for games, so I don't know if there's any reason to expect they will.

If they don't, it means your HD-DVD enabled Xbox will occupy two inputs on your TV and you will have to change the current input any time you want to watch a movie or play a game.

Did you read what he wrote?

He explicitly states that even people without a ton of money spend it on upgrading their computer rather than on a console.

The truth is that PC-Gaming is very popular in germany so those ppl wanting to play shooters are upgrading their pcs even less rich ppl do that sonstantly.

I have to agree with him in a way, shooters are inheritly superior on PC (at least until keyboard and mouse is accepted/utilized widely on consoles).
