I just got cable net, how to mix with DSL?

Dig,

if you'll have two eth, both with active internet, you'll have to set up your routing properly.

You can do it either by sw (needs more experience/knowledge) or hw (needs some investment).

Anyway, if you had 2 connections on 2 seperate nic cards, how on earth would WinXP know how or when to balance the load between the two connections?
Automagically? :|

The correct answer would be: it doesnt.

Maybe try this:
Set the default route on the usb interface to your usb interface ip (Int.x.x.x) address. That way all traffic that isnt bound for your home network (hom.x.x.x) goes to your cable modem (Inter.x.x.x).

So when you request a resource from hom.x.x.x then XP knows to use the interface that hom.x.x.x is directly attached to.

Im unfamiliar with the usb networking stuff. The idea above may not be possible in your configuration.

PM me, I can probably help ya.

Oh, I changed it a bit. I put in another 10/100 NIC in Bubbles and hooked the cable up thru that.

Now if I want the local network I just enable the NIC that controls it and use it, then disable the NIC when I'm done. (If I don't disable my local network NIC I get me net thru the DSL, it's kind of goofy. )

a cheap but tedious solution is to turn on windowsXP's tcp/ip filtering feature, and filter out the ports on each networking device that you don't want trafic moving through. but you have to know which ports to block on each device, and with different applications (especialy games) using differant ports it can get annoying quick.
