I heard that its pretty hot in Europe right now...with 40C in Rome. So who is enjoying there.... :D

What's funny is that I read an article a few days ago about Europeans in general poo pooing americans and our usage of Air Conditioners because it's so artificial.

What's sad is that the power grids in Europe are generally too old and outdated to be able to support mass AC use even if they wanted to.

Isn't global warming supposed to cool off Europe or something (by messing up the Gulf Stream)?

Lol...Just know that whatever it is, and whatever it may cause...it's surely baaaad!! Oh...and it's the United States' fault!

I have just found it humorous over the last few years how quiet the eco-thugs have become.

Why do you suppose the global warming bit has all but gone underground?

Every now and then some crack head from eastern europe or green peace pops with accusatory statements claiming they have found more proof of global warming. Then they and their comments disapear abruptly.

1: I want Europe (Or at least the place where I live) to be cooler that it is right now :)
2: Global warming, to the extent that it is real, is just as much Europe's fault as that of the US - as of now, it seems to me that Europe is just better at pretending to make an effort.

hehe....europeans are enjoying heat and we are enjoying monsoon....India has received more than twice of normal rains... :D

Bad for the Bangladeshi's, of course. They always seem to drown when the monsoons come.

Not sure the warming is anything brought on by us, back in Roman times the UK was hot enough for the growing of Tropical fruit. Global variations in temperature happen all the time.

Almost. The engine that powers oceanic convection depends on the hot and cold differential between the tropics and the poles. If the poles heat up and melt, as they are in the process of doing, the cold water will cool the warm water near the surface of the ocean, up around greenland. That is where the warm water gradually loses its temperature and sinks to the bottom of the ocean, which is then carried away to the tropics by the convective belt. With that water closer in temperature to the water at the bottom of the ocean, oceanic convection would cease, or severely slow down.

This would in turn allow the ice in the poles to advance, which would further cool the atmosphere, and in effect redirect the jet stream away from Europe, turning it into an icicle.

...and so the "current theory of the year" goes. ;)

Tune in next year when Europe is turned into into hell-on-earth based on the next scientific discovery related to our "understanding" of global climate. ;)

I didn't even catch that....classic! :p

Oceanic Convection is no theory. It has been quantifiably measured via satellite imagery.

Measuring heat and heat movements, ocean currents, etc, vs. understanding causes and effects are two completely different things.

Indeed. However, it doesn't take much to figure out if you eliminate the differential in a convective system, thus balancing it, the dynamic will fail, severely slow down, or continue, but in a smaller fashion, i.e. the point at which the warm tropical water would lose its temperature and sink to the bottom of the ocean to be carried back to the tropics would happen at a lower latitude. That in turn would allow the glaciers to advance, thus affecting the route of the jet stream.

There is absolutely no doubt that the UK is warming, you can argue WHY but not the fact its happening, we have been keeping accurate weather reports for over 300 years, the last 20 stick out like a sore thumb. Brits have a thing about the weather, we've been keeping very accurate records for a very long time...

It has changed in the last part of the 20th century. It could be just 'seasonal' variation (like the mini ice age in the 18th century which appears to be related to volcanic emmisions) or it could be global warming, I'm not qualified to say. We have had a 'record breaking' summer roughly every 5 years since the 1970's, we used to get them every 50 to 100 years....

Of course I go with the reduction of carbon emmisions, based on simple logic of "Better safe than sorry", I don't won't my descedents up to there eyeballs in water just cause we couldn't agree on the cause.

Nah....I refuse to get drawn into this debate again. Sory I ever mentioned Global Warming.

Just one parting observation...

I guess those poles aren't melting fast enough....

Oh, and:

Don't be silly. They'll be frozen! ;)

What causes higher levels of precipitation? ans: global warming

What causes the weather to be more hot? ans: global warming

What causes the weather to be more cold? ans: global warming

What causes lower levels of precipitation? ans: global warming

What causes absolutely normal weather? ans: global warming

Gesh I think global warming just about covers it all, I am a regular freaking meteorologist. heh.
