I guess you could say its a good space saver. The unit is very small if you already have the 360.

And it can easily be used with a PC, which most standalones cannot.

mmm... I can see how the small form factor is great, and pretty nice if one also had an HTPC sitting next to the TV (if one didn't have a 360). It works with Mac's too, right? Not a terrible combo with the Mac mini.

I'm not so convinced on other uses although maybe I don't know the appeal of playing HD movies on a normal desktop computer or laptop screen. *shrug*

Versatility to be moved between an XBOX 360 and PC.

But the HD-A3 is a much better player IMO if you are simply comparing player quality.

If I ever get an HD-DVD player, it will probably be the 360 add-on. I already have a PS3 (mostly purchased for Blu-ray & folding) but still plan to get a 360 for gaming. May as well get that instead of yet another stand-alone device.
