Has B3D become the cool kid on the block?

looking at this image about how alexa.com tracked the popularity/traffic of beyond3d.com:
graph

This place has gotten a major boost in popularity/traffic in the last 2-3 months. Anyone know why? Dont get me wrong educating the masses is a good thing. ;) but not sure what happened all of sudden to get this place so busy.

later,

I think since we formed our B3D FAH team, traffic has increased a lot....apart from that we have a gr8 attraction CHAP in console forum....third reason, jokes I posted in a topic here ;) ...

Well ever since NV spewed the 3dmark BS back in Feb I started coming here alot more cause I just agree with pretty well everybody. I mean I don't know a single regular here that thinks NV is right, cause they arn't. Everybody know NV is just saying BS, and some ppl on other forms just can't get that through there heads. Thats why I started coming here more often. I registered in september. Maybe came like once every two weeks, now its more like twice a day :p

P.S Before I started coming here my home was the futuremark forms (amd_t_bird).

Easy.

Because with all the flames & BS going around you need to be able to go somewhere where da bigbrains just give you the straight facts unbiasedly and so over-analyzed that it can make me little brain hurt at times. :)

You do realize that you're the most respected website on the net for having the most accurate information and more importantly being able to figure out & translate what that info means, don't you?

You folks run a great site and have very educated, knowledgable, and well-spoken members...not to mention you enforce good manners and don't let your boards turn silly fanboyish. ;)

You got a class act, simple. :)

So if I'm reading that chart right, it's about the 10,000th most popular website on the web? It's a nice improvement... but it's still got a long way to go to reach Barbie.com.

The whole dissapointment over the NV30 and then the 3DMark issue caused such a ruckus that, I would presume, many more people started having a look in here to see what the word was. And they found that the word was good and honest, and backed up with hard facts and empircal evidence. Oh and fanbois are shot on site (sic)...

I am worried about you Crusher.

What I care about is to maintain/increase the traffic, regardless of whatever flavor-of-the-month "issues" may be in the future. To do that, we need consistent output of official site content, not discussion-based content.

I was wondering about that. I'd noticed a distinct dilution in the quality of posts I've been reading here.

I stopped hanging around NVNEWS because of too much NV v. ATI fan-boy stuff and I found a haven here where the discussion was at least intelligent and knowledgable. That's been changing recently I'm afraid, and seemed to be correlated with an influx of new users.

I'm hoping this is drop in quality just a short-term phenomenon. We shall see.

This is quite an interesting issue. I must honestly say this is my favourite hang out spot. There is almost never a time that there isnt some interesting discussion going on in the forums. However official content does take time, as it depends on hardware/software/APIs/... to be released and pre/reviewed. And so we must live with waiting for articles or reviews.

Im curious whether it would be possible to get some of the developers and hardware engineers to write articles about cutting edge technologies. Not sure if they would be allowed to, but that would be a great addition to the site.

just my 2 cents,

Actually, I think the current people who post on these boards and frequent lurkers enjoy "discussion-based content".
Though you do make a good point, you need more material.

I especially don't like how there is only 1 news post per month or so. It gets boring looking at the same news topic for 31 days or so.
Sometimes I wonder why I bothered to bookmark the front page rather than just the forum.

If you were a new member here, how would you feel if you saw a senior member say what you just said?
I agree with you that things are changing here, and partially due to the new members B3D has aquired recently, but I think that the excellent examples set by the B3D "lifers" will set the trend on how things are to be discussed, and how new members should act. These forums bring out the intelligence in people who actually want to be here, it is a place to learn for them. The bad ones will just go away, because this place is not their style.....just my two cents.

As for the front page, I think it's great. The news is attracting people, and the reviews are "the definitive" source of truth for todays hardware. Excellent and proffesional. It's exactly what it should be.

I'd think "dear God, is he talking about me?" and I'd think twice before opening my mouth and carefully consider if my words were simply noise, fanboi bleating, or something useful to add to the discussion.

*cough* Hypocrite! *cough*

You have proven to do the complete opposite of what you have stated Russ.

Who owns B3D btw?? Is it a listed company?

Err... original owners are/were Dave Barron, Marco VanZuylen and Myself. Currently I think Dave Baumann has joined the party of owners. Dave Barron and I have slipped into the background due to our Jobs, but at some level we still own some of the site. Heck not even sure if you can call anyone the B3D owner...

K-
