Hi!i need help!

I lent my friend my 100 GB hitachi external Hard drive for him to transfer some files for his video editing class...

The problem is that my genius of a frined reformatted my 100 gig an now it's only regsitering at 32GB...

it was originally an ntsf format @ 100GB...

he reformatted it to Fat32 but it's only registering 32GB...

not sure which program he used...

is there anyway of reverting/reformatting it back to its original size?

it was OEM and didn't come with a utility disk...

i tried looking at Hitachi's site but they don't have it...

please help!!!

Yes it is easy to reformat it, but all the data will be gone forever.

the data needed is already been backed up :)

can you help me format it back to 100GB?

i've tried formatting it numerous times to no avail.

Are you on WinXP?

If YES then connect the HDD to your computer, make sure it isnt the OS or Boot drive.

Go to Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Computer Management
On the left hand window click on Disk Management

Find the HDD on the right that is only showing as 32GB, delete partition, make new partition, format in NTFS.. all this should be self explanatory once you get to Disk Management.

He may have also set the jumper to restrict the drive to 32GB capacity as some older computers had problems with recognising drives larger than 32GB. However since it is an external drive I doubt this is the case.
