Halo 3 to have adjustable gravity.

Halo 3 is set to have multitudes of customizable options for multiplayer. It should have many, many more than Halo 2 in fact. One of these options is adjustable gravity. Frankie, KP, and company recently tested this feature out during the latest Halo 3 Humpday Challenge. Testing it out on Snowbound, Bungie tried out two game types with 50% percent gravity. The first match was a rockets match. Similar to tactics used on Halo 2's Colossus map, players would spend as much time as possible in the air, thus reducing the possibility of a splash damage kill and forcing opponents to make a direct hit. While the crew notes that it wasn't that much different from a regular rockets match, it did provide for an extra layer of strategy and timing. It's also worth mentioning that once everyone runs out of ammo, the game transforms into epic, anime-style air battles, with each player trying to melee the other as they pass.

The second match was shotguns and sniper rifles. This match played much differently, as the low gravity does wonders to put you out of shotgun range, but also makes you an easy target for any sniper worth his salt. As such, shotgun players often found themselves not being killed by those they were dueling, but by snipers in the distance. Nice.

Options like adjustable gravity (and many others) should go a long way to keeping Halo 3 a fresh experience. Are there any cool custom options you'd like to see?
F*****G AWESOME.

link or source please.

Anyways... looks like they're taking some notes from UT. Now, if the gravity affected the bullets themselves...

Old news actually. I read this on EGM's (was it november or december '06) issue when they reported about their experience going to Bungie's studios and played Halo 3 MP beta.

iirc, they probably wrote something about the adjustable gravity change on 1up's site aswell...

Yeah, November (Edit: Scratch that, Dec. issue, released in November) EGM. I'd suggest giving it a read, whatever method you use. Game options are really being taken much farther than the past two games. Special gametypes that used to rely on nothing more than an agreement to follow specific rules (zombies, for example, where one would choose the switch team option, only use certain weapons depending on the "side," etc.) can be created using game rule options and traits assigned to specific players (person carrying an item, player in the lead, team in the lead, and so on and so forth). Add in that you can advertise such gametypes on "Xbox Live Public" to get other players ala matchmaking instead of just people on your friends list, the return of replays, and so on... quite impressive, IMO.

1up also had a "3 weeks of Halo 3" special, and there's some nice stuff in there too, if you're a halo fan(atic/boy/girl/whatever).

1Up's 3 weeks of Halo 3

Halo 3 Beta answers

How many players are going to be in the beta?
A lot, many thousands. Let's just say, you won't have trouble finding a match.

How many maps, gametypes, playlists, etc. are we going to see in the beta?
Just enough to get the testing data we need while providing a fun game experience yet still leave everyone wanting more. The exact scope is still being finalized.

Will the party system be implemented in the beta?
Yes, you will be able to find your friends, join their party and enter matchmaking with them, in playlists which support parties.

Will we be seeing anything that we have not yet seen from the Alpha screenshots (and leaks) in the beta?
There are bound to be a few surprises in store for fans. And seeing a fuzzy cell phone video of the alpha doesn’t even begin to come close to actually playing yourself on an HD television with maps that are several months further along in development.

Will we see the function of the mysterious X button?
Yes. Whether or not it’ll still be mapped to X is subject to change. And honestly, it won't be all that surprising. Just cool.

Will we all have to sign NDAs and never speak of the beta? Will you try to contain screenshots and movies coming out of the beta?
Nope. In a perfect world, maybe, but it's hard enough when the participants are just a few thousand MS employees, let alone thousands and thousands of Halo fans. We don't expect anything in the beta to remain a secret. The beta will be covered by a normal user agreement, with lots of caveats about the fact that it's not finished, only lasts for a short time and so on.

What kind of data and feedback is Bungie looking to glean from the beta?

We’re looking for a lot of things. Mainly the kinds of things that you cannot otherwise accomplish without the mass of people we'll have, such as stress-testing all of the backend stuff and networking. We’ll be keeping an eye on our forums for general feedback, but the primary goal is to gain valuable technical information that’s only possible when we have tens of thousands of simultaneous players across the world.

You can read that, and significantly more in the weekly update.

Also of note: Frankie has said the jackal snipers in Legendary will not be as bad.

And the control scheme will basically be customizable any way you want, this is just the default.

Good things all around.
