Gran Turismo 7 [PS]

I think they touch on it a bit on FM7. Where the rain gets heavier and heavier and with each progressive lap the track is getting wetter and the puddles deeper. And if you race long enough it will start drying up in reverse order.

It’s a fun effect. Not sure how many people actually cared to prepare for it; I assume most people will race wets if the laps are few. And if you are doing a long one a pit should let you change.

but if part of the track is wet? Hmm. I guess just run drys ?
dynamic weather with weather map brings strategy and more excitement to race as you will have to guess should I pit this lap and change tyre or maybe later, different surface dry level on nordschleife will force you change your braking behavior depanding on your track position, quite exciting stuff tough yeah for more advance players (for me racing during rain is very hard)

Lol yea I was going to say that Lando will care ha

Looking at the track lists on GTPlanet, GT7 has all of GTS’ tracks. That’s great, but you have to imagine many of them were just brought forward without modification.
I would think that transferring the track forward from GTS to GT7 would mean that modifications of the track would actually be easier. No?

I suppose the closest comparison point would be Assetto Corsa Competitizione and its upcoming next-gen console version. Here’s the official YouTube trailer (max 1080p).

Not an ideal comparison, as ACC is still 30fps on previous gen while GTS (and presumably 7) is 60fps, and while it looks to be 60fps on PS5 (with ~30fps rearview mirror) it also may be only 1080p. And the tracks in the trailer aren’t directly comparable to what we’ve seen of GTS/7 (Kayalami? Zolder day and Spa wet night). Still, we can look at the big picture details and the Audi GT3 interior.

Sure, I’m just wondering how many tracks have been improved. I imagine they spent their time on the new oldies and modifying whichever GTS tracks allow for new weather conditions. Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic and they gave all of them a once over.

Gamers complaining about boring backgrounds and tracks probably haven’t been around real racing tracks. They’re bland and boring. GT
7 is trying to be realistic so the tracks look kinda boring. The only track I’ve seen that is kinda beautiful in real life is the Mugello in Tuscany, and even that is kinda bland when you look closely. I just hope gt7 doesn’t have near impossible online trophies cause Sport had that and I hate missing a platinums because of one online trophy that’s near impossible to achieve.

I was annoyed by the look of the in-car shadows in GT6 screenshots. Then I played the game and realized they didn’t really* bother me because I was focusing on the horizon, not the dash. That’s why I think complaining about second-class asphalt in a game where I’m regularly cornering faster than my ability to discern ground details is inconsequential. The only reason I complain about the LODs (mainly fence details and shadows on a straight, but cars also show obvious transitions) in GTS is because they’re smack dab in the middle of my screen and as obvious as a lack of AF on flat surfaces. The rest (weird trees, etc) I tend to tune out during a daily race.

I thought common consensus was that GTS has nicer lighting (a key component of its visual gestalt) than FM7, which is why I don’t understand this sudden outrage over John’s opinion (which he explicitly mentioned in the comparo video, IIRC).

Yeah, I don’t have that many online wins in Sport but I’ll probably get 91 before I hit level 50.

* I’m still occasionally aware of them in my peripheral vision because they’re so chunky.

Looking that, one thing that Assetto Corsa does very well is give realistic visual cues on the forces at work on the car and on the player's head. How the cars/player's view tilts side to side or forward and back depending on the force a turn is generating or whether the player is braking or accelerating hard. While other racers may have a little bit of that, I don't think I've seen anyone do it as well as they have.

Also, cool to see that when driving in the rain, there is much less of that. Less grip = less g-forces on the car and player's head.

SB

If gt7 do gonna get psvr2 support, do you think it's reasonable to expect that the visuals will be downgraded to ps4 tv quality? Or it'll be better/worse than PS4 tv quality?

What? You are saying forza horizon has been lying to me all these years?

There's no snazzy stage, no bling bling super bright colorful lights dancing to the music?

From what weve seen, should be totally doable on the ps5. If they have to reduce settings, you’d have a hard time noticing it.

If on psvr2 we will have gt sport quality its 10/10 for me :d

Obviously nowhere near GTS or GT7, the PS2 GT3 original was amazing for the time, wont say it holds up but alot of that has to do with resolution, lighting was very good for the time. Bump up the resolution/filtering etc and it still looks quite nice even today.

Forza Horizon has messed up the expectations for both this and Forza Motorsport in terms of what people will want from a racing game. No air time or being dropped from helicopters. I'm getting the anniversary physical of this and I'll get Motorsport when it comes out. However, I think Polyphony and Turn 10 will find that only the hardcore may show up for these.

The games truly had some amazing graphics for the time. Especially some of the lighting effects and sun using the PS2s amazing frame buffer took a while to be equaled anywhere else. And the car models were always amazing of course. It also makes me miss some of the city tracks, like the Tokyo one that had the actual Polyphony building in there. Rome was nice too. And something like Amalfi looked amazing.

Edit: no I was thinking of Citta di Aria

But of course as the replays show a good reminder that they were also limited to just 6 cars per race etc. These days those limits are mostly gone and that is certainly a big improvement all by itself!

One of the latest GT7 replays above has those beautiful clouds lit by the setting sun from below skies, lovely.
