God of War 2: Divine Retribution (PS2)

Wow, that's one big ass horses. I suppose it would be like the titan from the first game, perhaps it's pulling an entire land scape of some sort (a castle?). And new kilt? Glad PS3 is backward compatible. Kratos in higher rez would be nice.

You can indeed see structures on the horse's back, and in the later shots it's quite clear the levels shown are from those structures. It looks awesome.

Man the draw distance is nice. It's a scary thought to think what the PS3 games will look like in 2010.

Think BIA3, MGS4, and MOH:Airborne are going to be the bottom of the barrel when compared to 2010 games. I can't even imagine.

Yeah, I just notice that. I need to pay more attention to details. He he.

Btw, some new images are up. Looks familiar though...?

probably like those screens, they are to touched up, not a hint of aliasing anywhere, high res textures and perfect filtering

this is why people are disappointed when they see next gen screens they are to used to this type of stuff

but I am not saying the game looks bad it will probably be one of the best looking ps2 game made, I'm just tired of doctored screenshots

The pictures are, like most pictures these days, supersampled.

Supersampling provides Anti Aliasing and a better surfaces filtering. The textures are on par with what was displayed in God of War, though.

It should be noted that the God of War engine has a good IQ for a PS2 game, it uses Mipmapping and it has an (optional) deflickering filter. So, the final game shouldn't look way too different than what is presented in those pictures. Other than the AA and the excellent texture filtering, that is. ;)

But could we or should we expect better AA among other goodies when running the game on PS3 (ie PSX on PS2)?

I'm tired of all the "this is why people are disappointed in next gen" talks! There are plenty of next-gen games that look nothing like high res current gen games.

On my TV God of War looked 95% like the screens released so...

Agreed. I'd say GOW was on that level minus some AA+filtering. Textures + Polys were on that level also. What im saying is, If GOW does indeed go to the ps3, I would like to see graphics that are closer to the CGI cut scenes featured in the game. More polies, better textures, AA, filtering, better physics, better animation (if it even can get better than GOW1).

Instead of this...

Id like to see stuff closer to this...

Probably a bit much, but if GOW "3" (if thats what it would be) is on par with heavenly sword, consider me a happy man. :)

Wouldn't more polygons mean that you have more to animate?

I'm not too fimilar on the animation process, but yeah im pretty sure. But I'm just saying, some next gen games dont have the greatest animations gameplay aside.

For some reason Bad_Boy I think God of War 3 will look better than that CGI screen you just posted.
That would be sweet, but just for now, not gonna get my hopes up. ;) We probably wont hear anything about GOW3 until after GOW2 is out, unfortunately.

Does anyone know how they managed to make the backgrounds look like matte paintings? I noticed this in GoW1 where some of the backgrounds had that prerendered look but they were actually real time.

Very good/clever artists. ;)

Im not anticipating a GOW on the PS3 anytime soon at all. Jaffe will most likely head off to do something else for the PSP, then I predict that he'll bring something fresh to the PS3. GOW 3 will be way down the line, imo.

Exactly...so it isn't just me. Someone once posted a GOW screenshot that I declared must be pre-rendered ... but it wasnt
