David Romam of Nvidia informed at interview to site xbitlabs (january/2005) NV-42/Geforce 6800 cost in development early US$400 millions.

How much it the cost of development the G70 ?

Better... if the GPU ps3 will be based on the G70 (or parallel development) how much Sony would have repassed in resources($$$) for development RSX(any information?)?

Thats the number for the whole line though with all the parts if im not wrong.
G70 i have no idea but i guess the R&D was much lower for one but the total cost as the whole line isnt out yet i dont know. Check up some of the analyst-meetings or their next Quaterly report for that!

well observed overclocked and thanx for information , and my intention to know " the quantum" of investment on the previous architecture have been invested for rsx, to determine if really has an (great or less) addition in the performance ( more cost = more improvement ...i know this is very relative but...) in this gpu.

Thanks, there are however some much more clever people at this board when it comes to the numbers. I guess you are after an "estimate" of how much Sony has plunged in to nVidia aswell as the cost for RSX. I think you can search the boards also cause there was some discusions about this for awhile ago.

I'm fairly certain that the 400m USD figure for research and development covers the whole NV4x/G7X/RSX architectural line, and not just NV42. $400m to process shrink an existing processor sounds absolutely absurd - that would imply that ATI and NV spend billions every year on R&D, since they release (easily) more than 10 distinct new ASICs a year.
