I prefer to be able to save anywhere because life, at least my life, is just not predictable. But this issue has largely been solved on consoles where sleep/resume is seamless and this is something where consoles are better than PC. I could never deal with an classic Resident Evil save systems this day. I just wouldn't buy it.
I ought to be able to sleep/resume my gaming PC but it's ability to recover mid-game is highly variable. macOS is definitely more reliable than Windows in this regard but neither approach consoles. It's why I loved PSP, loved Vita, love PS4 and love Switch. The hardware accommodates my life, my life does not have to accommodate the game.
