FM2006 is out today in the UK!

First review-

You have to hand it to SI. In every other genre there are a few 'must-have' titles, with no singular game that would cover every base. In the world of football management, you really do only need FM. Nothing else comes anywhere near to it in terms of depth, scope or intensity. Forget 3D match engines that bear little relation to your tactics, or the ability to build stadiums and fix hotdog prices. No, concentrate on what's important - feeling like a manager. And FM2006 does that. It's the most accomplished football management sim ever, without doubt. It's a game where you feel almost as bad when you lose on screen as it does when your team loses in the real world, and that is some accomplishment. It's a game where the line between success and failure is so fine it's blurred, and the payback is only in your head - you'll get no fancy FMV congratulatory screen here. It's a game where you define your own goals, and have to work hard to achieve them. To put it simply, it has the elusive X-factor. And so it should be left to the manager to give us his informed opinion on the way his team is prepared for the long season ahead:

"I've looked at my squad, and those of the opposition, and can safely say that we are going to walk it this year. Again."

Seems about right to me.

I think that's exactly the point, it's just another facet of an enthusiasm for football.
I can understand it perfectly, even though I've not played a football management game for quite some time now. I play for both a Saturday and a Sunday league football team, which also gives me four training sessions a week meaning Friday is my only day off football, sadly enough I do tend to crack out FIFA or PES when certain friends are round too...

I started playing champ man games on the Amiga, it can be argued that they are just stats and numbers games but so some rpg's, some people like trolls, i like cheap Belarusian strikers. I think that best describes CM games, football rpg's.

Football manager games are SO last millennium! Almost like Fantasy Football or whatever they call it!

"Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2006’ (PC) sells twice as many as last year’s version, scoring No2 in the All Formats Chart. ‘Football Manager 2006’ outsells ‘The Sims 2’ in its first week to become the 2nd fastest selling PC game behind Sport Interactive’s very own ‘Championship Manager 4’ way back in week 13, 2003."

I had no idea this was coming out since the last Football Manager game didn't seem like it came out very long ago. Can't wait to get more info on it and try it out.

London-boy, don't try to understand Football. Its like me trying to understand why you like putting things up mens bums :)

Its not just stats and numbers. While the match engine isn't any kind of 3D game it still shows a very realistic representation of the movement and flow of a Football match. Then again even before that match engine Championship Manager (Football Manager) was great. Its not hard to understand why with some imagination.

Probably because the game is also being released for PSP and XBox 360. Though undoubtedly this thread is primarily about the PC version so you have a point there :)
