Titanio

Legend
Thusfar only from a relatively bad Famitsu photo. I don't think we can post these here?

Snake is elderly - I would say in his 50s.

It looks awesome, the facial detail and soforth is very impressive.

It does seem to be "middle-east" themed as rumoured.

WTF? Is that Snake? He looks really old...and moustache look will take sometime to get used to...but damn, if that's realtime, then -- goddam!!! o_O

If that's realtime then it's not really what I was hoping for. I was hoping for RE5 quality visuals.

It looks to be easily RE5 quality if not better IMO. Hopefully we'll have better media soon to make a better comparison, although I REALLY want to see this in motion now. MGS games are defined more by their movement than their purely static visual quality (and that's not a cop-out - from these shots the game's "static" visual quality is probably better than any game I've seen sofar, MGS games tend to just look so much better still in motion).

Oh, and game does take place on a Battlefield.

Easily looks better than RE5 to me. And yes, this is all real-time (if this is indeed from the trailer to be shown at TGS) and final PS3 devkits aren't even expected until December. Very impressive.

I'm not really concerned about the colors. It's the face that just doesn't seem to look realistic from that picture. Regardless MGS4 and RE5 will both look good in motion. Also you guys keep saying it looks better than RE5 yet you don't go into the reasons...surely you have reasons...

The MGS4 seems to have a graphical style that does not aim to be realistic, but something more like a painted comic style. Don't recall that style being used before in games.
Comparing it with RE5 is a bit... well you know what ;)

Eh, it was you who first brought up the RE5 comparison, what makes RE5 better in your opinion ?

And you have reasons why it doesn't, I take it?
Falling back on comparisons to CG ( which turns outunfavourably on your account), shows how huge MGS4 is. This is in-game, this is gorgeous. Direct feed media for this will be truly astounding.

I believe its Solidus Snake, btw. He has the same eye patch (big boss has it covering the other one).

Yep....and I don't know if there are spoiler tags here...so I won't say it (pertains to previous MGS games). But its fully possible that Snake is this old "in a short span of time". So not that much time could have passed. I can't wait to see the direct feed of this. Also...it would see that Kojima isn't going for exact realism...it seems as though hes trying to inject art and style into the character design...which in my opinion is a good thing. If you notice the lines on the face..it makes me feel like the same lines and bends in ZOE (Zone of Enders).

the producers of upcoming resident 5 said when the game gets released the main character wont be as detailed as in the trailer that was shown in the playstation event since the trailer uses the source chracter model not the one that is going to be seen in the game. I suppose it would be the same case for metal gear solid.

Which game looks better is a subjective question. eg. I might well think Okami looks better than RE5 even if technically it's not as demanding. Rather than 'looks better' perhaps if people think a game is technically superior they ought to explain how so.

Having now looked at the link that close-up face is excellent.

People get so excited when things are presented as a PS exclusive. If this were a screen shown for x360 people would say "heh... looks nice. Im sure the PS3 version would look better so I'll wait for that one..."

That said it looks great!... Not Fouad stroking good and I'm not sure what is art versus realtime based on the page but I'll guess we'll know in a few days... I have high hopes that this game will take us back to the fun that was MGS. Didn't really like the follow-ons as much.

Things that make me go "ooooooh". The wrinkles and and the bags under "big Boss"'s eyes (I don't want snake to be an old fogy) were nice. Plus, TEETH!! Usually teeth look like big blocks in games, these look really nice... I wonder if they're dentures. I like the fact that I can distinguish different types of material... like the silicon / nylon? cloth on his forehead vs the plastic eyepatch. Mustache hairs are nice as well. I can see the polys though, around his neck.

By the way, snake's a clone-thing-a-ma-bob, right? So doesn't he age much faster than normal people? Maybe snake really is a grandpa now?

By the way: Baten kaitous 2 and Xenosaga III for the win, baby!! Today was a bunch of great news.
