Firmware 2.35 coming: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/05/14/firmware-v235-coming-soon/

I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.35) will be released shortly. This is a relatively minor update to improve stability of some PS3 titles.

Probably to fix Gradthawn's GTA issues

There is a new rumor about Firmware 2.4 coming in June too. Claimed to include trophy/achievement related feature in XMB. I'll believe it when I see it (I thought it would come later like in July).

EDIT: Oh it's up now. Downloading...

lol! Would be nice.

The trophy/achievement thing, is that based on SCE comments like the in-game communication statement or just rumor?

The rumor is new and unofficial. Trophy/achievement support is already in games like DMC4. It's just that we can't browse them in a common place now (which renders them pretty much useless at this point).

EDIT: Gradthawn, I found this message for you on the PS Blog ;-)

I just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue. You can contact SCEA Consumer Services for support — their contact info and hours of service, as well as more information on this issue, are available in our Knowledge Center (http://playstation.custhelp.com/).

I just left the PS3 as well only to hop on the blog to get the news of the update and then hit the forums to see its out, lol.

I am curious as to what else may be hidden in the update besides 'game stability'.

AV Watch says it added Youtube upload function for game developers to use in their games.
Mainichi Issho supports it with FW 2.35

AVWatch is incorrect. I believe that functionality was included in 2.20.

It seems alot of stuff was in 2.20 that we're not aware of yet.

Dean, any insight into what games may be getting fixes with this update? If it doesn't include a fix for GTAIV then I can't think of any other high profile multiplat that it may apply to. That'd leave 1st party/exclusive titles, which would make sense from a perspective of Sony FW support.

If you can't comment on specific titles then how about hinting whether this applies to current or future releases? Say maybe a title (or 2) that just completed a beta/demo and ran into issues?

Yes, Sony saves development resources and time too since people can simply share their media over Youtube, even in Home.

The only question is how Sony intends to co-market Crackle. The Official PS blog keeps using Crackle videos. So we can't see them from PS3 yet :(

I never understood their use of Crackle. They state its to reach a wider audience but Youtube is the default video sharing community that everyone knowns. I know there are many others but my grandma knows Youtube now, lol.

Either way, this is a very cool addition. Just think, capturing game matches/play and directly uploading them to Youtube.

I can't comment because:

a: I don't know what fixes/titles they refer to..
b: If I did know, I couldn't comment.

:)

Now that the cat's out of the bag, can you confirm if the SDK supports recording to youtube video (e.g., saving in-game scenes as Youtube movie) in addition to just uploading ?

Anybody noticed that Nvidia's infamous blur filter has gone in 2.35.

All the PS3 games are sharper, crisper but obviously with slightly more noticable jaggies.

:) This movie was generated by TTP@GAF using the Youtube upload feature in Mainchi Issyo. It can record up to 10 minutes (The footage is 6).
