Regardless of whatr PS3 offers, these do look good. The crowd seems more detailed than I was expecting, and the glass fronted buildings look realistic. The only aspect that just with me, apart from what we could call 'low poly car bodies' (when do we get real-time tesellated NURBS?) are the trees. All in all though looks very smooth.

Seems like the red car is alot higher poly than the blue one in the shot with both of them in it. Look at the body frame above the rear wheels. Maybe the blue car is using an older model than the red one. Maybe the driver car has less polys than the other cars since its the other cars you'll see more.

to be honest, if this game is at the 60fps that the video suggests they could ship it in the current state and i wouldn't be disappointed with it as a first gen game.

fact is, it's only going to go up from here now that they've got the beta kits and can start playing around with optimisation and new effects.

So, yeah if it's going to be 60fps and at least that good visually then colour me impressed.

makes you wonder how amazing the second/third gen games will end up looking! the difference between pgr1 and pgr2 is pretty big imo, and arguably the next gen consoles have more potential for gains from learning how to work around the hardware.

i do hope that by the time it ships the cars will look a little smoother though... seems like with a little work they could be almost perfect (perhaps that's a trade off they had to make deciding between 30 and 60 fps though... who knows)

Nurbs? well if you'd settle for 15 cars in a racing game, you could have that. Nurbs are a totally different work flow compared to be working with polys. I doubt you'll see this happen any time soon. If anything I'd think SubD's would be used before you'll see nurbs in racing games vehicles.

? I dunno that doesn't make any sense to me. When it comes down to it, both consoles are capable of exactly the same graphical effects. It all comes down to art style, and i think PGR3 looks pretty darn good.

Without discussing which console will be better I hope you are kidding.. :? Ik don't believe for 1 second that 2 systems with completely different Cpu designs and completely different Gpu designs will render exactly the same result on your TV screen. There has to be (and will be) differences.

Now about PGR3..I already think it looks fantastic (with a few exceptions) but will it also look fantastic compared to for instance PS3's GT.. :?: For me this will be interesting to find out.

PGR3 looks really good. good enough that I will most likely get it the day it comes out, pay full price, and not wait for it to become a budget title.

I bought PGR1 on day one, but skipped PGR2 altogether. I really want PGR3 now 8)

Wowee zowee. This could be my new "Soul Calibur".

What I mean by that...

I wrote off the DC in my head thinking it's just another N64-level upgrade (ie, a good step up, but I'll wait for the next lot thank you!). Then I went into a game shop and saw Soul Calibur running and thought "holy shit!". It was something that was so far beyond what I'd seen before I couldn't help but buy one that very day.

The same thing happened to me with Ridge Racer on PS1 (a step up from Megadrive/Genesis racing games ;) )

Looks great.

From what I was aware MS were still only shipping dev kits with downclocked CPU and GPU?

So either:

* There really is final hardware out there and this video was recorded off of it
* The video was rendered frame by frame and spooled into a video (ala Deanoc's Heavenly Sword)
* The video was produced from downclocked beta hardware. Even with AI disabled you would think there would be room to improve on fully clocked hardware

So what is it? :devilish:

Scratch 2 because the developer has said that this is realtime.

OMG..I love the sound of the Engines!!!! But what i'm really iffy about is the camera angles...I've always hated (Polyphony Digital does this also) is the dynamic camera angles. This looks really hyped up and cool...but obviously the game can't be played at those extreme angles. (EDIT: Well...you possibly can play like that...but thats if you want to be dead last just so you can marvel at the visuals)

Anyways...kudos to the developers..the sound of the engines alone get me pumped up for this game!

look at it this way. Take one AMD PC with a Nvidia GPU, and one Intel PC with an ATI GPU. In the end both are just as capable as each other. the graphics on a game that runs on both platforms will look the same. The games that are exclusive to both platforms will look fantastic on both. One system doesn't have a visual advantage over the other since they are both capable of the same basic feature set. The visual difference is goign to come down to the quality of artists.

No, I'm not kidding. So what if one chip comes out after the next. this is just like the PC chips these days. They have reached a platuea with features required to fully support DX and OpenGL 2.0. New features for future versions of DX and OPENGL will come out at a much slower pace, and the high cards are now basically fighting it out with the same features. The difference is, one can render a certain feature (or collection of features) faster then the next.

Now swithching back to consoles, I've been saying this a LONG time before PS3 was released. The only difference graphically you're going to see is that one console can render a certain scene faster then the next (under certain circumstances) you're not going to get, console x looks much better then console Y because of these really cool hardware features. Both consoles are capable of similar things. Very similar things visually.

PS3 may be faster in certain areas, and xbox 360 may be faster in certain areas. They both can render the same scenes, with the same textures, pixel shaders, lighting parameters, etc. The only difference is that one will be faster at doing so.

Now the automatic assumption many people on the net made when seeing the PS3 specs, was that "Oh wow it's gonna look beter than xbox 360 since it's more powerful". In reality this isn't the case. The bad multi platform games will look bad on both systems. the good multi platform games will look good on both systems. Both systems will have games that look bloddy amazing and will be exclusive.

PS3 however won'have a button to push that makes graphics in games look better then xbox 360. That will come down to the quality/capabilities of the artists.

I agree except for a couple of things. It's possible that the ps3 could push out more polys than the 360 or vice versa thus allowing for higher quality models at the same framerate and also the 360 can output a 4X AA image with little hit on performance so there could be a qualitative difference in the final image.

I think the camera angles have more to with them showing off GothamTV than anything else. GothamTV should be pretty cool, you can all watch me kick**s, because I will definitely be grabbing this on day one.

That is one of the most impressive looking games that I have ever seen.. if it's all real time.

Hopefully Bizarre creations will include a replay mode with user controlable cameras.

What impresses me most is the lighting. When you look at the buildings it just looks so good.

I don't know how to put it but it looks like lighting should look in real life.

Does anyone thing the GI/ambient occlusion rumors could be true? Or is this the result of HDR?

looks great but why dont the cars reflect each other? there really should be no excuse for that next-gen. i hope they do when the game ships.

The models look great -- the tiny amount of non curved surfaces you can see are negligable at best (and probably more so when you are going 100-200 mph).

The thing that bothered me was the "spikey" shadow of the red car (it is in one of those pictures). I was watching the video and all of a sudden that stuck out like a sore thumb, it looked awful. I imagine that is a little bug they still have to correct -- it looks ugly though, no matter the cause.

Anyone care to describe or tell what sort of power you need for full reflections? (math, pixel fillrate.... something...:?:
