Some info

Japan was host to the Xbox Summit on Monday, and Bizarre Creations was in on the ground floor.

This week our very own Nick Davies was shipped out to Japan to give the press some info on PGR3. Talking at the Xbox Japan Summit, Nick outlined some further details on the third Project Gotham Racing in the series, as well as showing a new trailer from of the game.

Some points that were covered at the Summit:

The new Route Creator allows you to design your own tracks, and share them online over Xbox Live.
It is now possible to drive any car, at any time. You can buy your favourite super car at the beginning of your career, and use it right through to the completion of the game if you wish.
80 high-powered automobiles are featured in PGR3. You'll be able to drive the most desirable collection of super cars ever featured in a game, such as the Ferrari 430, the Lamborghini Gallardo, and the McLaren F1 LM.
Fully motion captured, 3d crowds react to your racing. They will cheer the cars as they race past, and move away from the barriers if you crash.
Our new sound engine uses 30 individual samples; this is 3 times more than in PGR2.
On average, each car is rendered using 80,000 polygons. This consists of approximately 40,000 for the interior, and 40,000 for the exterior. To put this in perspective, PGR2 used only 10,000 polys per car.
Along a similar sort of lines, the geometry of only the Brooklyn Bridge structure uses the same number of polygons as an entire city in PGR1.
We look forward to giving out more information on PGR3 in the future. Keep checking back to Bizarre Online for more updates.

Still looks great. They do a fantastic job at hyping their game making it almost a guaranteed success. I wonder why other devs aren't doing the same..

I'll host it for a few hours. If anyone spreads the link outside the forum the server goes down.

EDIT: Done hosting

this is the wmv high resolution version, not the quicktime (97 megs)

Here you go Rusty, these are not very good, but you get the idea :D

cheers hardknock - they're good enough.

Does look really good, but one question is nagging at me - with 40,000 polys just for the exterior, why are we still not seeing smooth wheel arches etc? (eg the wheel arch on the TVR in the 5th pic, or the top side of the headlight on the mclaren in the 4th pic)

i had hoped these sort of things wouldn't be present (at least not so obviously)

but don't get me wrong, i do think it looks impressive!

edit - i'm probably picking out these things more because i'm stuck looking at static pictures. i imagine at 60fps this thing looks even more impressive... but i still think things like the rear wheel arch on the tvr in that 5th pic stand out as letting the rest (which is phenominal) down

ya the polygon's in the wheel wells should really be gone, actually the whole interior looks a little blocky.

other than that, wow these looks good, teh reflections are just great, and I really liked how you can see the "TVR" on teh brake calipers, through the spokes of the rim as the wheels turn...very cool.

Watching the video and not staring at screen shots I must say if this game plays as well as it looks ms is going to sell alot of systems world wide . This game is truely impressive and fluid . Watching it and it feels like there is a sense of speed .

Ms should be showing this off every chance they get

btw, if anyone is having problms playin back, use an app called "bsplayer" it's free and plays back easily 2 or 3x's better than windows media player.

I get only minor slowdown, during the interior shots with complex backgrounds, on my work system, XP 2800+ with 512MB or ram.

Xbox 1.5  :devilish: anyway it looks really good! that's a game I'll get first thing so i can race against my brother. Oh it's gonna look sweet in high res widescreen, I can't wait :)

I want to see a PS3 race game first before I make conclusions about the quality of the graphics.

? I dunno that doesn't make any sense to me. When it comes down to it, both consoles are capable of exactly the same graphical effects. It all comes down to art style, and i think PGR3 looks pretty darn good.
