He is not, however, an expert on the neuroscience or medicine, which are extremely relevant to some of his claims.

Okay then, I'll accept your "suspicions" over his 30 years of expertise on education. Especially given your background in medicine, neuroscience and education, which are extremely relevant to some of your suspicions.... oh wait...

Argument from authority is a logical fallacy. Learn about it.

And I said I didn't want to get into a detailed discussion here. Otherwise I would have actually listed my reasoning.

I'm watching the thing right now, and he is absolutely right about a lot of stuff. The factory line mentality of schooling, and arranging according to age groups in large classes is causing a lot of mayhem.

Lots and lots of kids are not doing well in large groups, for various reasons probably since we're all individuals, but bullying and subsequent lack of self esteem is a large part of it. Many kids are also immature for their age, and thus do not fit in as well with the rest, and will have a harder time absorbing information deemed appropriate for that age.

Problem is, people in general, and politicians responsible for dictating school policy, don't really give a shit about any of this. The information covering all this is out there already; you don't need to watch a guy in a british accent giving a speech to know this. These politicians themselves by and large know this also.

The reasons they don't ACT on it are mainly twofold: ideology, and money. (Well, threefold, you might say, since stupidity is obviously also a factor involved... :p)

Except in most of the schools I went to (I went to quite a few), there was much finer-grained stratification than that. In particular, students that did very well were frequently put forward a grade, at least in one or two subjects. When I got to larger schools, they started dividing up students based upon their grades and/or test scores. And there were optional classes available to all students. There was also quite a lot of groupwork (not in all classes, but in many).

So I don't exactly see the problem here.

Yet you're happy to quote your own "authority" (ie vague "suspicions") to debunk an expert in the field. You call into question his credentials, yourself appealing to the authority of other fields which you also have no background in, in addition to yourself not being an expert in Ken Robinson's field.

My wife was actually a professional and qualified teacher in higher education for several years, and pretty much agrees with what Robinson says. She does actually have a 20 year background in medicine.

Feel free to claim I'm appealing to my wife's authority, or that it's the wrong type of medicine, or that you have "suspicions" about it. After all, I'm sure you know better than either of them being an astrophysicist and all...

Very cool Star Trek-like tech. This 3D printer does more than just the regular one you know ... it can color, vary strength, and make moving parts.
