F1: Schumi to Retire after current season

It'll be the end of an era when this guy retires. Dunno if I really care though, Schumacher's shown himself to be a crazy bastard on any number of occasions.

Maybe it'd be for the best.

I don't like his style, sports ethics and general personality, but i recognize that he is the greatest driver in the history of F1.

7 championships and 90 GP wins are no small feat.
Fangio only got to 5 titles in his day.

Personally i really liked Schumacher.

I guess that i could lose interest in F1 in the same that i lost interest in the NBA when i was a Jordan fan back in the day.

I think he'll win this year. He also earned it IMO.

I'm already eagerly awaiting the fights between Raikkonen and Alonso, I think that'll be interesting.

I dont like Schumacher, ever since he successfully ran Damon Hill off the road in Adelaide ensuring he won the championship.
He has also been reckless on a number of other championship winning incidents and has gotten away with his arrogant style.
However, he is an extremely gifted driver and that is something no one can take away from him.
As for his legacy and comparing him to Fangio or even Senna, I say no way... Schumacher did not deserve some of those championship wins due to his "lame attitude."

Hoo-bloddy-rar. Perhaps we can get back to F1 being a sport!

F1 is a sport, albeit a weird one. I think Schumacher is unique in that he brings a lot more to the team than just awesome, consistent driving.

The kind of thing you want back in F1 can only happen in something like the A1 Championship.

That's got to be one of the strangest F1 posting ever. You're praising Senna, while condemning Schumacher for ramming Hill? Senna and Prost did that to each other in two consecutive years in the last race. One time Prost being the F1 champion, one time Senna taking the championship. It's not like this hasn't been done before.

Reads like a description of NV (as an analogy, of course) since the turn of the millenium.

Schumi is the epitome of a boringly-consummate driver. That's why he has achieved what he has so far. He's like a robot, boringly efficient. If he weren't American, I'd think he was German.

Martin Brundle sums it up best

"Where Schumacher cannot draw the right line is on track. He cannot see when he crosses the line between tough but fair, and ruthless but foul"

He'll be remembered more in the record books than peoples hearts I think.
