Explosion Effects - which Programs / PlugIns

Thanks for stopping by.

[as completely new to 3D-programs] I like to know which 3D Program (or wich PlugIns) is best to create animated Explosions (SciFi, like exploding spaceships, fire/smoke-explosion, particle-systems, good presets).

Any names of PlugIns?

programs:
Lightwave, Houdini, Maya, 3D Studio Max and Blender. (blender is free)

have any unreal games ? you can do particles in the editor
