Founded in March 2002, Real Time Worlds employs 75 people and is led by three game industry veterans who, between them, are responsible for some of the world's most popular games. Real Time Worlds creative director David Jones, founder of DMA Design, was the creative director behind two of gaming's most successful franchises, "Grand Theft Auto" and "Lemmings."

Ian Hetherington, former managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, founded Psygnosis, one of the United Kingdom's first videogames publishers. Tony Harman, former director of development and acquisition for Nintendo of America, was the executive producer of the "Donkey Kong Country" franchise.

Seems like a big win for Microsoft to get this group of veterans supporting the Xbox 360.

Seems MS isn't getting the brands so much as the former brains behind the brands (ie: Mistwalker/Sakaguchi and Final Fantasy). Who knows if it will fly with the consumer, but my thoughts are "no"...

Depends when they expect to ship the title.

Dave has a great eye for games, but he's never exactly been quick or on time when it comes to game development.

If the games are good they'll do great.

New franchises are born all the time, the consumer only cares about the games.

Was he involved with GTA3?

DMA was one of the "Dream Team" developers on the Nintendo 64. David Jones was in charge of that studio I believe. The original GTA was a top down view game.

DMA created Body Harvest for the Nintendo 64.

Can't remember the exact timing of the various Buy outs, but I don't think so.

But GTA3 really is just GTA in 3D, the original 2D game was a great game. I remember the Rockstar guys telling me it would be a hit and me telling them it was a 2D game and it didn't matter how good the gameplay was it had no chance. Even the first 2 sold well, although nothing like the numbers on 3.

DMA was known for many 16 bit successes too. Certainly a strong heritage. I'll be interested to see if any innovative work comes out from this.

The 3D Grand Theft Auto was when the Franchise really became big, the former ones where known but not as much as GTA3-San Andreas. Also Sakaguchi hasn't really messed with Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy V (His mark was the whole element around Elemental Crystals in Final Fantasy). So hes been out of the mix for a while (on the Final Fantasy's after V he would just act as someone who would oversee the games and have some imput..but did not play a big part).

We'll see if these two can spark new franchises off, they definatley have the backround to do it again....

Well it's not their only strategy. It's not like they are relying on these new titles to sell systems. That's what Halo, EA support, etc... are for. In the Japanese market things are much more of an uphill battle. Nevertheless, MS has to continue to try new IPs. They have some highly successful ones so far with Halo, PGR, and Fable, but they will need more in the long run.

You speak the truth sir, I for one believe that Sakaguchi has a whole lot of potential in the story based RPG's. Lost Odessy is looking like its going to have a great storyline (even if only the premise of the story is known).

Sakaguchi was heavily involved in FF6 and 7. After 7 was finished he moved to Hawaii to make the FF-movie, which has some of the same themes as 7.

I'd cry foul on any thought that Sakaguchi will bring great story premises to his games.

Toriyama refused to work on Blue Dragon under Sakaguchi's script, which was promptly thrown out and rewritten by Toriyama.

Lost Odessey's script is being written by Shigematsu, a very famous Japanese writer.

What Sakaguchi will bring to the games is not story, or gameplay, or graphics, or any of that... ... it's work flow or rather the Square-soft production pipeline. He may not have any grand talents to speak of from a story or gameplay perspective, but he KNOWS how to set-up a team that can do things right.

What he contibutes is leadership and experience, everything else IMHO is simply over-glorification from the fans.

Uematsu is already doing the scores for both of the games. Like I said, he doesn't have the creative talent, but he knows how to get a team up and running that does.

Back on topic, if you check out the Real Time Worlds website they are all about creating MMORPG's.

"As avid game players, we believe that the future of video games lies in massively multiplayer on-line gaming....We have an innovative concept and unique technology that will deliver new possiblities to MMO online gaming. Our current projects are very exciting, and extremely high potential, and are in development on both current and next0gen consoles"

So, I guess we'll be getting a few new original MMO games of unknown genres for the X360, cool!

Sounds like they have somethign pretty impressive cooking, must be if tehy convinced MS to shell out the $$ for exclusive rights...

APB will probably end up on the PC and XBox 360, but Webzen is publishing that. Since Webzen is publishing Huxley on the 360, it hard to imagine them not bringing APB to the console also. I like the art style on the artist renders.
