There is nothing wrong with saying that you discovered something that already existed. Gravity's nature was hidden to us, as was inertia, before it was scientifically investigated.

We always had DNA, we are made of it, but Watson, Crick, Franklin, et al, discovered it's nature.

Discovery is relative. Columbus discovered America for Europe. If a native American sailed to Europe, he could claim he discovered it for his peoples.

Yeah, but unlike gravity, DNA is non-obvious. You can't discover that which everybody knows is already there, simply putting a name to it doesn't count.

The falling of objects toward the earth is what everyone 'knew'. The Laws of Gravitation were the discovery... you making this much of a deal over the word 'discovery' troubles me.

Um, when did we ever discover gravity, and how the heck did we manage before then, with the atmosphere leaking out into space and everything floating around, planets not following any orbits etc?
