DX 9.1 is FX friendly?

I didn't found a thread at this forum, but what do you think of this?

From a major news source, Microsoft is, with the assistance of nVidia, about to release a new version of the great and essencial DirectX 9. And it will be Direct X 9.1. What's so amazing about this? Well, this new DX will favour nVidia's CPU's, especially regarding the pixels shaders 2.0. When accompanied by a regular update, the expected performances would be with the height of the unconditionnal hopes of the californian company. The perfomances in DX9 (for example HL2) would then be similar to those of the competition in terms of quality and especially in terms of speed. And all in precision mode of 32 bit in the PS 2.0.

Maybe a better management of the instructions of the PS 2.0 (improvement management of the streaming instructions ). To quantify, that could go to 60% of profit. A percentage that seems confusing and amazing but that we can't verify before it is released. All that we can say is if that is going to occur exactly as annouced, it will be an enormous relief for all the purchasers of GeForce FX.

I hope this is more than just a PR stunt. I would really prefer the FX5900U to crush the top end Radeon line in terms of performance and IQ, especially so considering the cost of the card.

Unfortunately I'm dreaming again.

It's just stupid IMHO, no logic.

And so on...

Rumours.

I suppose Nvidia made up with the "Team DX"... :p

It's alive!!!!

Hey, hope you're feeling better. And stop thinking about those cigarettes!
You kidding? The only thinking I'm doing about cigarettes is how much I ain't never smoking another one...this was a bit too close for my liking.

Besides, after the angioplasti & stent I feel better than I have in years....I'd hate to mess that up. :)

Don't want to take this off topic but I will anyway. ;)

What happened Dig?
Heart-attack on Sunday. Very scary. Got to ride in an ambulance, got me heart all fixed up, and got home on Tuesday night. (Or was it Wenesday? It's been a looooooong week. )

Everything really is fine now, I had like a 95% blocked artery that probably would have killed me in a few months if I hadn't gotten it tended to...and I didn't have any heart-damage from the attack.

I took it as a cheap lesson in why I shouldn't smoke and why I should take better care of my health. And it scared the bloody hell out of my wife & family, she's doting over me very happily now..it's sweet. :)

I got a couple of slow weeks ahead of me where I ain't supposed to strain myself, but after that I should be just fine. I feel great, albeit a bit tired lately...but that's kind of to be expected. (Oh, and I got a truly frightening looking bruise on my right thigh where they went in for the angioplasti & stent...but it doesn't hurt at all. ;) )

Glad you are doing well, DW....those cig's are a killer.....lost my best friend 3 weeks ago because he just refused to give em up....was only a year older than me.

Sorry to hear that Martrox.

It's weird, but I'm not even tempted to cheat. I know what smoking does/will do to me now and the thought just repulses me.

Besides, it wouldn't be fair to my family. I kind of scared the bejesus out of 'em, the least I can do is try and recover right & stay healthy. :)

Yeah, it's about your family. That was my main reason when I stopped smoking last year: on my birthday I just finished forever. Before that day I smoked a whole pack per day over more than 10 ys - and I never smoked again since then.

The first month was hard... it's about self discipline and strength of WILL... :D
After 3-4 months you'll feel the TASTES again. I mean BETTER, really. :) It's just cool. 8)

And....in about 90 days you will get back a sense of smell! Be aware, though, that everything smells really weird for a while........ ;)

Words of a blinded uninformed f@nboy as always ;)

Glad you're okay Dig. On a quiting smoking related note, I'm just finished my second week without a cigarette.

Well if they can get 60% preformance out of DX9.1 without having more then a 1bit per pixel change in the DX9.0 Rendering good for them. I think we just gonna have to render sences in both the standard and new compiler paths and start doing image comparisions also capturing the HLSL asmble that is compiled will be help us check for foobarness.

I don't want to turn this into a personal thread, but just quickly wanted to wish Dig all the best. You survived, many don't - Take it as a sign (as you already have, seemingly) ;)

---------------------------------

As for DX9.1, i'd be suprised if the legitimate increases are going to be as big as the kind of numbers they're throwing around. A combination of more suitable DX code, legal optimisations and "illegal" optimisations will get them those kind of increases, possibly, though.

But, as someone else said, image quality tests will have to be run to see what's going on.
