DVD sound problems

I have a A810N or something like that I think.

Athlon 64 3300+ (Is it me or is this a weird number?)
512 mb ram
Nvidia Geforce 5200+
16x DL DVD+/-RW drive
Onboard sound

When I play DVD's the sound cracks a lot on both speakers and headphones. I have tryed both Intervideo and WMP and both have this problem.

Also I have solved it in Intervideo but WMP still is having a hard time with overexposed looking picture...

Any ideas for either problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have DMA enabled for the drive. Check to see what codecs are being used to play your sound and if necessary try a different one, ie check you have the latest motherboard drivers for your sound, and also codec for decoding the sound on the DVDs.

overexposed picture might be related to the video overlay brightness settings.
