IF so that is fine. What you have to worry about me commenting on is the all original content from sony and how they don't wnat it to be ports .

Not wait for the PSP but wait for a strong reason to buy the DS. I don't even consider them in the same category (e.g. for me it's not DS vs PSP; for me to buy a console/handheld, it has to have merits on its own. If both do, I will buy both. :) ).

As for ports on the PSP, you're going to get TONS of those I'm sure. (Even the DS will have eerily similiar games to the N64 library with a smidgen of new features). It's a simple way for companies to minimize risks.

TY in another post on the forum a user said sony promised all original content for the system and they didn't want it to be a port fest , i will have to find the post .

As for the ds it currently has 2 games worth buying it for . A greatly enhanced mario 64 with 3 new chars to play through the game with along with new missions to get stars

Feel the magic which my sister got and that is pretty fun

Anyway i got my system because right after the holidays great games will be coming and right now i can enjoy the new ds games and the new gba games on one system . Final fantsy 1+2 , the new zelda game , new pokemon and if your into it the new kingdom hearts .

Whoever promised that from Sony is a moron or not officially speaking for the company. There is no way ANY console on this earth will ever have "all original content" if "original" means never seen before. Find that quote so we can see what they said and who said it.

Glad you're enjoying your DS. I was not much of a Mario fan so for me, I'll wait. I have CounterStrike Source in the meantime. ;)

yet look at their line-up. gran tourismo, darkstalkers, nfs: underground, colin mcrae, ridge racer, twisted metal....

nothing new. i'm not saying that is bad, i'll likely pick up a psp just for darkstalkers. established franchises sell systems.

The quote is from Li Mu Bai over here{/url} saying: Much like Sony is preaching an "all original content" & no direct PS2 ports.

The interpretation is very loose, and IMHO very pointless. Would Viewtiful Joe for the PS2 not be considered a "direct port" because Dante was added in? Even things like Mario 64 DS start out from a port concept, but goes through "retooled" and "added extras" filter to become its own game.

I imagine what Sony wants is no games that spend no time in the conversion process when they talk about "direct ports." They have talked about things like this in press releases following E3: Sony is refusing approval of any game that is simply a port of an existing PS2 game. The company hasn't revealed how much different the game has to be from its PS2 counterpart to be accepted for PSP development. And while Metal Gear Acid is conceptually different from other MG's, games like Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo are not fundamentally different than their PS2 counterparts, or what we were seeing even at early stages like E3.

So what makes them acceptable? I imagine it includes recoding with power-saving steps in mind, retooling the design towards widescreen display, a few different cars/characters here, a few different maps there, more pressure to make sure there are good multiplayer modes abounding...

<shrugs> In the end, who knows? But "all original content" rarely applies in the technical sense across regular console generations either, and in the context of the conversation I don't think he was intimating Sony meant anything like that. (Obviously they don't just by the examples we can see.) But there are ways to make sure a game doesn't seem "exactly the same" to the public.

NINTENDO BOOSTS NINTENDO DS SHIPMENTS BY 40% TO ADDRESS EXPLODING CONSUMER DEMAND

Total 2004 Shipments to North America Will Reach 1.4 Million

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 9, 2004 – Shoppers eager to find the new Nintendo DS™ can rejoice – at least for the time being. Nintendo today announced it will increase total shipments of Nintendo DS to North America by 40 percent, to 1.4 million systems before the end of the year. Due to the system's popularity, many retail stores across the country are reporting shortages, and the initial batch of 500,000 units all but sold out a week after Nintendo DS launched on Nov. 21.

To date, North American retail sales have reached 700,000. In addition, sales of Nintendo DS in Japan exceeded half a million systems in just four days after launch on Dec. 2, meaning more than 1.2 million Nintendo DS systems have sold through worldwide.

"Nintendo is doing everything it can to make Nintendo DS attainable for the holidays," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "The enthusiastic response from shoppers has made Nintendo DS 'must-have' – and we're determined to make it 'will have.' "

I guess that means later European launch date? Or will they have sufficient numbers for that as well?

Oh well, as long as Europe gets most games at launch, with extra bonuses, I am happy. :)
