Okay, it's not adware but it is advertising. I've noticed that Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner service will redirect all invalid IP address and http site to the homepage of Marathon Communications (VoIP products). Kinda lame.

Google the Verisign redirection fiasco of 2003 and you'll find that this kind og thing is much, much, worse than just the 'adware'.

Where are you in the world? I wonder if this might have something to do with the net neutrality/peering legislation being shot down? Say goodbye to the Internet as you knew it kids...

Here in australia doing that could be considered a federal jailable offense. Its basicly it comes from old mail laws making it illegal to basicly redirect or intercept someone else mail that was latter applied to telecommunications which is what is happen.

He is in the US. Legislation being shot down doesn't change anything though, but we do need regulation agaisnt crap like this.

Fortunately, I can't see anyone here where I live trying this. It must be hella confusing to technically incompetent/computer illiterate people getting dumped to some totally irrelevant site when they mistype an address. Maybe even aggravating/infuriating.
