Display technology progress

I didn't intend for my first post to be an entire new thread, but some things are unavoidable i guess.

With Sony building a new plant for OLED tv's (albeit only for 11,5 inch until demand picks up) and more and more companies dropping Plasma display plants to reduce costs and slowly phase them out for new LCD and LED based solutions, where is the industry going?

Development of more durable OLED compounds and cost effective LED backlit LCDs is seemingly reported almost weekly, what is next on display manufacturers list of progress? OLEDs, SEDs and FED displays seem to take forever in coming into full scale development and with displays growing ever larger and more complex what is the most plausible and economic route i wonder.

I'd love some insight into all of this, thanks for stopping by.
