Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co., the world's second- largest media company, is creating a video-game studio to make titles exclusively for Nintendo Co., targeting audiences for its animated characters.

The studio, called Fall Line, will be based in Salt Lake City and run by Scott Novis, who led the team that created the game based on the Pixar film ``Cars.'' Novis's designers will build games for the Nintendo ``Wii'' console to be released this month and the ``DS'' and ``Game Boy'' handheld players.

Yay for ... games with movie licenses. Oh well.
That IS what the kiddies like, 'n all. I've been carefully trying to prime my 6 year old nephew with quality other games I think he'd like (so far it's been the Katarami Damacies and the GBA Wario games), but everything he and his friends want are based on whatever the last kids movie was. (Or TV show on Nick!) Which basically means "simple, cheese-tastic platformer" for the GBA, and "something slightly more actiony than a cheesy platformer" for the PS2.

<sigh>

Thankfully there was really no such thing when I was his age, but chances are if I was a kid in this environment I'd be drawn right to the same places. :???:

I've always wondered how Wii could practically steal the Mac OS vibe -- and iMac packaging -- and Apple have nothing at all to say about it. (The company has been all too eager to drag lesser offenders to court.)

But now it makes cents. :cool:

As we all know, Steve Jobs is head honcho over at Apple. But he's also upper crust at Walt Disney Co., being its largest shareholder and board member, not to mention the CEO of Pixar Animation Studios by virtue of majority stock ownership.

So what does this mean?

It looks like Apple is about to hatch another iconic scheme.

Yeah, I guess it's alright. Only when the kids themselves complain about the games would there be a reason to be really negative. It's just hard to get excited about this stuff from my own pov.
