Day one ps3 downloadables: includes RR7

DEMOS:

Blast Factor (Sony, Action)
flOw (Sony, Action) -the entire game is free iirc-
Lemmings 2 (Sony, Puzzle)
Kazuo (Sony, Puzzle)
Puzzle (Sony, Puzzle)
Mainichi Issho (Sony, Action) -no demo available-
Ridge Racer 7 Demo (Bandai Namco, Rennspiel)

I wonder how big the RR7 demo will be. More than 1 GB?

This download service is a great oppurtunity for sony to sell games like xenogears, valkyrie profile and other high profile PSOne RPG's that never made it to Europe.

You mention the *exact* two PS1 titles I plan to make my first downloads! ;)

This is why I posted the topic on the PSP store in the Console forums ... it links to the Playstation Store, here:

https://download.eu.playstation.com/shop/catalogue.htm?locale=nl_NL (probably uk_EN for Brits).

EDIT: yes, this works for English https://download.eu.playstation.com/shop/catalogue.htm?locale=uk_EN

You can find the store on www.yourpsp.com under PSP-downloads.

I think I can only enter the store when I have my PSP hooked up. If not, the link seems to be hidden. Haven't tested yet properly though. Certainly right now you can only download stuff if your PSP is hooked up.

I also noticed that www.yourpsp.com now allows me to direct download and install game demos from the site (currently Loco Roco and the soccer game), which previously only worked on the Japanese site.

I'll post some screenshots so people who don't have a PSP (handy) can see what it's like.

Some details about the Playstation Network:

What caught my eye is that users will be able to send each other attachments through the messaging client.

The obvious possibility is sharing rosters and other game saves, assuming this you can transfer attachments from the message box to the area from which the game saves are loaded to games.

It can't be this easy could it?

But then what other kinds of files would gamers have to send to each other on a console?

Maybe those downloads of old PS1 games for sale? ;)

It is odd because it's been reported elsewhere that the main web browser in the XMB does not let you download and save files from websites. So that eliminates the possibility of downloading game saves from gamefaqs.com and other sites.

Well for the psp, I think you can send photos to another psp, so I'm sure thats the most obvious attachment, and possibly voice recordings. Not sure music/movie files would be enabled due to piracy. But yeah I could see game saves and smaller games being possible. Guess we will find out closer to launch.

How will PS3 handle playing PS1 games? Will it be done with emulation? Last I heard the PS2 chipset would be included but does this chipset have the capability of playing PS1 games? The original PS2 had the PS1 hardware included initially but over the course of the PS2 lifespan was this hardware redesigned and added into the PS2 chipset?
