Could the GC benefit from a memory expansion pack

Not entirely true. The lighting computations take extra cycles. How much depends on the method you choose (there are many ways to do bump-mapping).
 
I kinda though that too, but I wasn't sure so I was waiting for someone to correct me..thanks for not making me look like a fool :D
 
Also 8 textures per pass takes multiple cycles, and there IS some additional bandwidth cost, depending on the filtering used.

Yep! Four pixels per clock with one TCU each, so two cycles for a single pixel with eight textures. Still a good fill rate (around Voodoo2's so it should handle its native 640x480 fine) though.
