core duo or Turion X2 for me ?

Hello,

I'm thinking on getting a portable PC, laptop.
I spent some days readng reviews, but still have some questions.

Core Duo is definitely, better than turion X2 at same clock rate (maybe because its larger L2, who knows), also consumes a bit less.

But... core duo is not a 64 bit CPU. this is giving me trouble. If I buy a laptop, it is intended to last for at least 3 years. I don't think it is prudent to go without a 64 bit CPU for a middle/long term invest.

What do you think?? thanks!!

Core 2 Duo _is_ EMT64 capable

IMO it is the best choice for a laptop (hell, even desktops at this point.. lets see if K8L changes that)

64bit is useful if you want to have more than 2GB ram.. which isn't even possible on current laptops I think. so that's not too much of a problem.

turion X2 is still very decent, IIRC asus makes a good laptop with it, good battery life.
IMHO in a laptop, there are so many things to think of besides CPU : keyboard, screen, battery, graphics card, HDD.

Core 2 Duo is EMT64, but Core Duo is not. x64 will probably (hopefully) take off with Vista x64 so Turion may be the way to go.

Of coure laptops is made of more things, not only CPU.
But I currently have an AThlon XP 2400+, and I want to get a bit more of performance if a get a new computer.
Turion TL-50 is only 1,6Ghz, and that would be like an Athlon 64 2800+ (in single core apps) and X2 3500+ (multithread).
Considering that and Athlon 64 2800+ would beat my XP 2400+, I might get better performance in all cases..

The problem is that Core duo T2300 at the same prize would give me more. Maybe Turion TL-56 worths waiting a month of so...
what do you think??
