Condemned

Condemned: Criminal Origins allows players to experience an unnatural level of psychological tension as they use their instincts, forensic tools, and melee combat to track serial killers and bring them to justice. Gamers will play as Ethan Thomas, an FBI agent in the Serial Crimes Unit (SCU), whose pursuit of relentless serial killers leads him through detailed urban environments filled with deadly sociopaths who lurk on the periphery of humanity.
Considering how much fun I'm having with Second Sight it looks pretty much like a no-brainer that I'll give this a spin! :)

When is the PC version coming out?

EDITED BITS: Nevermind.

PC 'Condemned' (PS2/Xbox/PC) Announced
Posted on Thursday, February 17 @ 09:13:34 PST
SEGA of America and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced Condemned, a suspense-filled, first-person psychological thriller game developed exclusively for the next generation of game consoles and the PC. The hunt for a serial killer has never seemed so terrifyingly real, prompting top gaming enthusiast publication Game Informer to comment that: "Condemned has redefined the horror genre (March 2005)."

Developed by award-winning Monolith Productions, the game allows players to experience an unnatural level of psychological tension as they use their instincts, forensic tools, and melee combat to track serial killers and bring them to justice. Gamers will play as Ethan Thomas, an FBI agent in the Serial Crimes Unit (SCU), whose pursuit of relentless serial killers leads him through detailed urban environments filled with deadly sociopaths who lurk on the periphery of humanity.

"SEGA expects Condemned to engage the game player with visceral, in-your-face, urban combat and an unparalleled level of unpredictability," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of entertainment marketing, SEGA of America. "The atmospheric tension and cinematic qualities of Condemned offer consumers the rich experience of a psychological thriller; something that has not been accomplished on previous hardware platforms."

"To become a leading independent game publisher, we must reinvigorate the SEGA brand by publishing great content that boosts revenue across all western territories," said Simon Jeffery, president and COO, SEGA of America. "Condemned represents an aggressive product acquisition strategy created to compliment SEGA IP with market-appropriate next-generation games."

"New leaps in technology are allowing our teams to create immersive game environments that are incredibly realistic," said Samantha Ryan, CEO of Monolith Productions. "Monolith's goal with Condemned, is to combine a disturbing atmosphere with realistic physics, devious AI, and a sophisticated combat system."

Condemned, the first next-generation console and PC game announced by SEGA, is slated to ship in Winter 2005.

Sounds like fighting talk from SEGA for next gen...will keep this on the radar! :)

I'm just glad that they're already planning to port the next gen console stuff to PC.

I used to hate consolitis in games, but without some ports I'd have missed out on some games I really enjoyed....I have a feeling the next gen console games ported to PC will suck from consolitis far less as the next gen consoles should be pretty damned close to (if not better at launch) than their PC bretheren. :)

Nobody thinks the game looks rather crappy for a next gen title?

I'm not sure if those screens are PC or Xenon and I'm not gonna get into an Art vs. Performance debate here but just a reminder that devs on this board and other boards (remember the recent 'dissapointing' fiasco thread) have stated not to expect miracles for first gen, next gen titles.

Unoptimised code on unfamilar/ non-final hardware with strict deadlines not gonna get you miracles. The 2nd/ 3rd gen titles will be better indicators.

so very true, Jaws.

Personally, i really like the look of the game. The only thing is that in one of the picture you can count the number of polygons making up the silouhette of the head, which, come next gen consoles will just be totally unacceptable, with the geometry performance they will have.

Does anyone think this game looks like it could be using the Doom3 engine or something very similar? Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing ;)

But in conclusion, i do like the look of it.

No.. It isn't using the Doom3 engine.. It's developed by monlith, so it will use the FEAR Technology.

Just look at this picture and the bullet hole: http://www.planet-fear.de/content/condemned/galerie/004.jpg

And compare it with this: http://www.planet-fear.de/content/galerie/007.jpg

I think they use the FEAR Technology.
