clip of AfterBurner in 3D (Sega 3D Ages on PS2)

It's the one on the bottem right.

a quick showcase of upcoming Sega 3D Ages games on PS2, set to some high-energy music. besure to download the 500 kbps version. And it's wmp.

Highlights for me were seeing AfterBurner and Virtua Racing in 3D. ok VR always was in 3D but AB was not. I hope this game is based on ABII, which is the more complete version.

Golden Axe looks cool also, as does Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier.

I had free reign of an arcade for one whole day and ended up living over at the Virtua Racing machines. The handling was so responsive and certain courses were great for head-to-head player challenges.

While some of these Sega 3D Ages games are looking great, I have an awful feeling that Virtua Racing will be alot like the Saturn version. If I'm wrong I will gladly eat crowe, and love every bite of it.

People who played that Virtua racing port said it's very well done. 60FPS, high res, all is good. Even the scenery draw-in which looks funny by today's standards is there, just like in the arcade. They said it has some reflection mapping on your car which was not in the original arcade, though.

From all those remakes, I think I like Golden Axe the best so far. It just looks like they put some actual work into it :p

Yeah, Space Harrier OMGOMG!

I played that one first in a hydraulic moving seat version in Holland wayy back, in the foggy, poodle-haired 80s when I was a wee impressionable teenager and I've always worshipped that game ever since!

Those colorful mushrooms, OMG!

OMG your old as sin man . In 81 one i was just born and I didn't get to play video games till around 84 and thta was on my dads intellivsion and then I got my nes and master system for my birthday xmass in 85.

hmmmm...i dont get it, so you "oldies" ( :p ) want to play back nostalgic games, then why not do it on your PC(+ video-out for the TV experience) or a Xbox(+ modded). Seems the same to me. :shrugs:

Chap, we're not OLD. We're mature and experienced, that's the difference. 8)

Anyway, that movie was total BS, the cuts were so short it was impossible to see anything from them really. Stupid sega... :(

I agree. I loved the flatshaded look of the original VR, and I loved the 'feel' of the cars too. I was actually pretty good at that game, it was fun as hell racing in a full 4-seat setup with a center screen...

DAMN those things were expensive way back then! :)

I'd like a single seat setup, that and a Marble Madness cabinet. Too bad my apartement is too small for either. :) Too bad my WALLET's too small for either!

VR(the real McCoy and not some PSPoort) was to be some oldie 3D? I saw the pics and they actually look quite cool today! has some sort of celshaded/killer-7 type of look. who can expect that what was once a primitive looking 3D game, is now nicey-nice looking!

wow..just wow! VR was what..an earlier 90s game? looks like Killer 7 ish to me! ie cool and nicey-nice!

VR isn't actually cel-shaded, just plain flat-shaded (in other words, not really shaded at all). It does have a very clean, neat style though. I like the backgrounds, they're rather advanced for such an early title, and the resolution is pretty high too.

VR arcade in the place where I live looks like complete ass, if you ask me. It reminds of those 3D games on C64, only with much higher framerate. It doesn't look nearly as nice coloured as that screen above, but it may be just a crappy washed-out arcade monitor.

Perhaps because some of us don't mind paying for a great game no matter how old it is.

It looks good if you can appreciate the retro look. Nice and clean. Same with VF. The butchered home conversions OTOH....

I can usually, but not the retro look of that kind. I love nice looking 2D games, though.

I normally do play old games on emulators (especially Pocket PC emulators) but I'm not sure if Virtua Racer is properly emulated yet, though, or if it can run at 60FPS on today's emulators.
