The thing is people are whining about the GBA SP but no one is forcing them to buy it especially when the GBA classic will still continue to be produced ;)

That's great that they are still going to produce it. Too bad they just didn't add a light for it though. I'd buy another one just for that.

So far I haven't heard of anyone who has actually tried it at CES or otherwise and complained about it. All I hear are complaints from people who haven't ;)

First of all we can easily split complaints into two categories. Looks and ergonomics. The former hardly requires anyone to actually see the unit in person to be able to form a 'valid' opinion imo. There are enough high quality shots of it around the web to be able to see it and form a decent opinion (pro or con) that I doubt having it in person is going to be able to sway parties from one side to the other.

Second we have complaints about the ergonomics. Some have mentioned that GBC causes them cramps and reports are that this unit is nearly the feel as the GBC. Seems pretty logical that this person(s) could have the same problem with the SP.

Furthermore below is a quote from an editor/writer at VE who actually did hold it and seems to agree that it's not as comfortable as the GBA. He also reiterated Tagineth's (I believe it was her) concern about small shoulder buttons.

How about "Many GameSpy message board lurkers are concerned about the ergonomics of the GBA SP. While it's not as comfortable as a GBA, I found it to be just fine, with only one complaint. SP's shoulder buttons are about one-third the size of the GBA's. The buttons themselves are responsive, but I really liked how the GBA's shoulder buttons made the system feel like a console controller. I could see myself getting tired of the diminutive shoulder buttons after a few hours. Now, keep in mind that my hands aren't very big. If you have large hands then it's likely that you'll find the handheld less comfortable (not uncomfortable) in less time than I did."

Ty: And Billy Berghammer said that the GBA-SP felt better than the normal GBA.

In the end, everybody's going to have to try it out to see if they like it. Good game, thanks for playing folks.

That doesn't address the issue of people not liking the look of it however.

Yet I do agree with your point if ergonomics is your concern with one caveat. IF someone already has an issue with the GBC and IF the SP is ergonomically similiar to the former, then it's not implausible for said person to worry about the SP's ergonomics. Another point to be asked is, "why are people whining about people whining?"

why are people whining about people whining

Because it's annoying considering the design is already set in stone ;)

Whining without actually playing the unit is unjustified IMO. BTW I don't have a problem with people not liking the look of the unit that's understandable. However, I'm pretty sure if a survey was set up to determine if the ergonomics or looks was equal or better than the GBA classic from people who have used both will put the new design on top in both categories making Nintendo's design choice a correct one.
