Capcom's Deep Down

I think it depends on the capture you were watching. Some footage looked fine, others looked too dark. Probably just poor camera settings.

Wathc that guys, the guy playing doesn't know about spells and is just getting the hang of aiming, but that game plays so smoothly ! Wow ! Looks like they are going for 60 fps. The stream as 30 fps but this is so damn smooth and shot with a good good camera. One can see everything. Too bad they are not allowing people to fight that Dragon. I want to see people using that Ice spell and that fire simulation.

What was the time stopping thing they showed in the live stream?

Seems the AI is nonexistent. Those albino bears are just standing around until you walk up behind them and stab them? Seems they can't hear? Also the fighting with the bears look pretty boring doesn't seem to be any challenge. It's too bad none of the players had a shield so we could see if the flame physics is working like the tech demo.

TGS trailer. The tornado spell catching up all th efire from the Dragon and swirling it up in real time ! Finally something next gen in games :D !
Trailer doesn't show the ice and time stopping we saw in the live feed. Wish someone would translate all that.

60fps rendering or motion interpolation from the tv?

I like the lighting in the gamersyde vid. I am surprised that they target 60fps, so I wonder what resolution this game is. Other than that the developer playthrough shows much better gameplay stuff with special moves and spells...the gamersyde player didn't play that well :) but the offscreen stuff looked really good to my eyes graphically.

So far so good...but the animations feel a bit stiff, and I would have loved way more reaction of the monsters when they get hit: stabbing with a next gen spear should result in a hefty impact with blood, wounds and maybe even stucking spear...up to now, we only get a number flashing on screen indicating damage (which varies depending on the body part)...they should definitively upgrade their animation+hit reaction tec imo to improve the overall feel.

I wonder if we get different periods of time, e.g. maybe some gunplay?

Some things look decent to me and others could be better. Lighting and textures were good but AI and animation could be much better. When the character broke the vases/jugs overall I not very impressed, it looked like the same animation sequence used over and over.

Similarly the overall level design comes across as too repetitive; I'd like to see artist create a group of wall textures and then have 3 to 5 variations which could be used almost in a procedural way to give levels more variety and come across as less generic even when doing something as mundane as walking down a corridor.

Same thing goes for the enemies, the creatures were pretty boring - why can't characters have a range of characteristics in a particular class and games randomly assemble them based off a range of options. Almost like the range of options you see at the start of games like Skyrim were a variety of options are all there and randomly assembled to provide greater variety even if the actual hp and so forth are somewhat static. For example couldn't some of the enemies have longer hair or some scares on their arms and face or be fatter, taller or thinner and that way as the player the level would feel less baked and more real due to the variety.

This isn't specific to Deep Down either as I could say the same things about most games across both platforms, it just seems to me that in part for gaming to get more immersive the levels and interaction needs to find a better balance. It would be a shame if all the memory and processing power is limited to better resolution and higher res textures which get used over and over. We need the artist to be able to offer a range of enemies within a particular class that makes things less generic. Same goes for textures which make up the levels, more variety would go a long way towards keeping things interesting.

I know some are on record saying motion controls are what we need but personally I think more variety would go a long long way towards making things more interesting.

After seeing the 60 ftp video on Gameryde I have one huge question....

How Capcom & Sony has green light this terrible mess?!?!? (Well Sony actually has green light also Knack...)

A part for the graphic that, I have say many times, to me, it is the biggest downgrade in the videogame history...
But...there were not game designers around ?!?!
It is a joke?!? Sony, please, at least do not show this s*** at the show!
Nextgen ?!?! Please!

Deep Down? No thanks.

It is not. Aliens Colonial Marines is probably the biggest downgrade in video game history, although video game history encompasses some 30-40 years so there could be worse offenders long forgotten.

We get it, you don't like the game. Why do you feel the need to spend so much time talking about a game you don't like from a company you don't trust?

Still looks like a tech demo instead of an actually game, seems very repetitive. What I enjoyed the most from the Souls series was the varied enemies...hopefully this doesn't go down the same path as Dogma with it's lack of variety in enemies. Very early to judge though.

Yeah, it's impossible to just what the metagame will be or the overall structure based on one, short random dungeon they're showing in the stream being played by people completely unfamiliar with the game's controls. The floor demo was obviously created to take like 7 minutes to play and only populated with a single enemy type to keep things easy. I'm really interested to see what the greater game will be like, what weapons and play styles will be possible and what abilities you can use.

To be fair, I felt the same about Airon's post, but he did say he'd wait to see TGS gameplay to see if it changes his opinion. He's seen the latest stuff, is bitterly disappointed, and said as much, which is fair enough. Now, if he feels the need to repeat this disappointment any more, having come to a conclusion, then he really does need therapy. It may be that odd behaviour of people where they find themselves watching something truly horrible, that they can't take their eyes away despite it being so offensive, and rather than spend his time, oh, I dunno, playing a game he does like, or reading about a game he does like, he's trapped watching this game he hates. If that's the case we really ought to pity the poor fellow, but hopefully it's not as extreme a situation as that. :yep2:

Guys, do not worry, I promise this is my last comment on Deep Down...

I leave this topic with a laugh...

Deep Down(GRADE) ? No thanks.

Hope we get a gamersyde version of the trailer and of the ice gameplay in the live demo. Wanna see th e fire and the Dragon in as much quality as possible.

Not bad for a PS2 game.

Edit: Watched the gameplay, i think it looks good, not as good as the 20 feb reveal, and gameplay is a bit meh...

That fire and wind is pretty impressive - certainly next-gen tech. The lighting and overall quality may not match other titles, but few games are the best in every department, and other games with prettier screenshots likely don't have such fluid dynamics yet. I think people are fairly spoilt by GI-lit screenshots and tech demos and really expect that now. And, TBH m,I agree. Without a good GI-style lighting model, however it's implemented, any game will look flat and 'last gen'. Proper lighting will be the minimum benchmark for next-gen realism.
