As for me personally, I don't care. I hate IRC anyway.

I love IRC but almost never use it since I don't really have a use for it..
ideal for public chat (versus private IM like MSN), you can have a chat on a website, accessible both with a java applet and a IRC client.

my prefered windows IRC client is Xircon (mIRC is a bit bloated and I'll never use the features)
