Hi I need help to manage OS for game and work.(3D graphic I want to take full potential of my CPU.)

As we all know DX10 is for vista only.So vista might be gaming OS.
Should I get vista 64 bits for both gaming and working ?
Or I should get xp 64 bits for working only and 32 bits vista for gaming ?

Or just ignored both DX10 and 64 bits be happy with winXP 32 ?
I've heard that vista slow down your performance alot.

From what I have heard, Vista is slower per application but scales better to running multiple applications. Gaming is basically running a single app, so it is worse for gaming.

You mean vista is better with multii-task ?

Anyway then if I'm working with maya with quad processors.
Which one is better ?

XP64 for something like Maya (since I doubt it's been fully tested under Vista), then Vista 64 for everything else, including gaming. XP64 is really not fun to use.

I've found XP x64 just fine unless you run into driver issues. A few companies haven't bothered to support it very well. But most do. NV, for ex, supports it as much as any other OS. My biggest problem was with Creative and my Audigy 2 not working with 4GB of RAM. Something about how their driver works with address space or some such and Creative will undoubtedly never bother to fix it (they completely ignore any such talk on their official forum)

I'd probably use it instead of Vista 64 if DX10 was available for XP. I am very displeased with Vista's networking issues (media playback, Vista -> XP speed issues, 9x connectivity).

Under those conditions it seems I have to use either xp or vista 64 bits for maya.(I've got 4 GB of ram so I can forget 32 bits)

Somehow....

- I need stable 64 bits OS for render my work all night without crash and its seem xp sound more like it.
- XP UI seems more friendly to me.
- I need 32bits OS for compatible issues.
- DX10 isnt really in my concern,I saw UT3 run under xp and vista its pretty much look same.
- XP has more drivers than vista.

So this is a choice to setup

WinXP64/WinXP32
WinXP64/WinVista32
WinVista64/WinXP32

Which should be it ? :)

Why are you not considering XP64 and Vista64?

What exactly do you mean by "compatible issues" with 32bit OS? What do you have that isn't compatible with the 64bit OSes ?

I dont have 64bits OS yet.
but I'm sure that some of my programs and drivers will not compatible with 64bits.

This case just like when I'm upgrade from wins98 to winsXP.
Some of programs wont run on winXP even in compatibility mode.
