Best CRT monitor deal?

I have a 17" trinitron that I like, but its refresh rates are too low at high resolutions for me.

I need a monitor that can do 1600x1200 at 85Hz+ and is flat, gorgeous, and cheap....anyone have any recomendations?

(BTW-When I say "flat" I mean a flat CRT, not a flat panel. )

The options are disappearing at an alarming rate I'm afraid. :-/

I'm having my mind set on a Philips 202P40(22"), gonna try to pick one up before they disappear like the Sonys have.

They're going for $600-700 or something, though. For value, hmm... The Samsung 959NF was good value I while ago, but do they make them any more? Philips' 109P40(19" little-brother of the above-mentioned) is good, but costs a bit more than most 19".

Stay away from Samsung 1100DF, excellent price for a 21", but the quality is pretty lackluster... Besides, it's a "fake" flat CRT.

Those are the ones I've got first hand experience with anyway...

$600-700?!? Are yea daft man?!?! Do you WANT my wife to cut off my testicles?!?!? :?

No, I was thinking of a 17-19" of decent quality for hopefully under $200. :(

Thanks for the input, but after getting an X800 this year I think I ain't allowed any more ridiculously expensive computer toys. Mebbe a middling expensive monitor, but no way a top end.

Try the used DEll 21in,. But your realy looking for a Trinny or Diamondtron 21in, And they are $600 or so new. To get 1600/1200 @ 85hz. the small CRTs are not being made in any numbers anymore and sony is going to leave the CRT consummer market all together. If you want 100hz at 16/12 you will be in the $1000.oo range. But that is the best investment i have made in my PC life.

100Hz @ 16x12 is $1,000us still?!?! Dang it, I figured CRTs would be gettable cheap since flat panels are all the rage.

Ok, so I'll definately limit myself to 85Hz 16x12. Trinitron isn't super important as long as it's nearly flat and has great image quality.

EDITED BITS: Dumb thought, but my son's best friends Mom was just telling me that if I ever need anything from Dell that her hubby has an account with them thru Ford and can get anything with free shipping...

With a monitor free shipping can be a biiiig deal, I think I'll poke around Dell's site for some deals. 8)

I have a Viewsonic p90f+B and it's a beaut. 16x12 @ 100Hz. Got it for around $250 - can't remember where.

I've had a p95f for about 5 years and absolutely love it. 16x12 @ 85Hz no prob and I think they're quite cheap (or whatever replaced them) too.

You can get some good deals on slightly used monitors. I got mine (a 21" trinitron for $200) and there are others that looks really nice check this out
http://www.accurateit.com/details.asp?iid=199

Of course they are out of stock there at the moment, but I kinda wanted one of those :p Still a 21" should be easy to find

This is basically the same as mine but it has DVI connections
http://www.azatek.com/details.asp?iid=524 That also seemed like a good deal to me.

Anyway a slightly used monitor is a really good deal in my opinion b/c right now they (folks all over) are getting rid of them for LCDs, my dad called me the other night to ask if I needed one since he got 3 19" trinitrons from his work for free as they replaced them with LCD's :p Of course he kept one for a dual monitor setup sent one away and the other already went to a friend of mine whose 17" died...

I was just looking at this one there!

$155 for 16x12 @ 85Hz is almost enough to make me forget it's a Compaq....
Its using the same CRT as your 17" (Sony Trinitron) and I think that monitor is a duel input one with 2 VGA inputs with a swith in the front to change from VGA1 to VGA2.

Cool, but that doesn't mean it has the same refresh rates/resolution...does it? :|

Ok, now that just sounds NEAT! :D

Can modern true flats finally compensate for the vertical pincushioning? True flats have existed for a while. I considered a flatron a while back, and while the screen might have been true flat ... horizontal lines certainly werent :) (It was not an optical illusion ... if you used a ruler it was still there.)
