benchmarking Far Cry

Haven't really made any effort in finding info on this so don't shoot me if it's really obvious. ;)

Is there an easy way to benchmark far cry (without resorting to FRAPS that is)

Thanks.

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post tis question in)

you can record your own timedemos in developer mode

you can check here http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbull...4e63cedf5c87e833e36044c6c&threadid=134651

it's german board sorry.

start farcry in devmode with shortcut farcry -devmode

open console with ESC

record demo with \record timedemoname
stop record demo with \stoprecording

the \ you get with tabulator key

the recorded demo will be saved in the directory of the level that was used to record the demo , so for instance for the level "control" you get "..FarCry\Levels\Control\Timedemoname.tmd"

to play the recorded demo \demo timedemoname

check the 3dcenter.de forums, there are a few timedemos there one of the guys recorded.

To run them all you need to do is load the game in dev mode, then \demo <demoname>
you need to start the map you want to bench first though

is there a console command to find out what shader model is currently active?

thanks for the help guys, though with the artifacts you get on nvidias boards I dunno if this feels really valid for comparison purposes anyways...

There is a fix for that listed too out today, somewhere in that monster thread...if I find it I'll post it.

BTW-Thanks guys, I needed this thread! 8)

hmm I recorded a file called demo.tmd
"/play demo" does nothing ("play" is not a command?)

"/demo demo" does nothing

bah oh well

you need to start the map you recorded on first (whihc is why you launch in devmode), then pull down the console and then \demo <demoname>

took me awhile to figure out too

Check this out: http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=452106891&m=504105513 , it may help.

hmm I don't see anything about artifacts in that thread

Whoops, my bad...wrong link.

From here, quoted in full so I don't screw up again. (Sorry about that. )

run -devmode type dumpcommandsvars
will dump to a file called dumpcommandsvars.txt in your Farcry folder.
When you start a map you can tell what shader model is used by scrolling up in the console and looking for this :

Vertex Shaders version 2.0
Pixel Shaders version 2.0
Use Hardware Shaders for ATI R300 GPU
Pixel shaders usage: PS.2.0 and PS.1.1
Vertex shaders usage: VS.2.0 and VS.1.1
Shadow maps type: Mixed Depth/2D maps
Stencil shadows type: Two sided
*****************************************
or you can look at log.txt
