unfortunetly i dont get to watch the european league, so this news wont matter one way or another. However, news of this has even made it to cnn, and other local news channels. So much for american ignorance. I dont think itll matter much one way or another to the average american as we dont get to watch the matches.
I don't think many Manchester United fans are too worried - They got a lot of money for Beckham, and it'll doubtless go to good use strengthening their squad.
I don't think the British public as a whole are too worried where he plays his football, as long as he keeps providing the goods for England. It was widely expecting he'd go to Real Madrid anyway, so it's no great shock.
As for me - Well I'm an Arsenal fan so I'm always happy to see Man United lose a good player.
Well, Roberto Carlos has got an absolutely lousy record for free-kicks. He's only ever scored a few despite the many attempts he's had. Beckham's record is a little better so I expect he'll get more chances... if he's on the pitch, of course!

IMO it's good for our top players to play in the top leagues outside the UK. It should give them a wider experience of the way other nations play football, and might make them act less like rabbits in headlights when confronted with the same players at the international level.
I just wish Owen, Scholes, etc., would follow Beckham to Europe.
Oh yes indeedy. The inability to defend counts as a black mark against most full-backs, but obviously not Carlos (or Ashley Cole, for that matter).
We certainly do need more English players to get experience throughout European football. Each country does certain things well so you can only improve your game by getting experience overseas.
