Baseless Next Generation Rumors with no Technical Merits [post E3 2019, pre GDC 2020] [XBSX, PS5]

Sure. Yet, we had leaks from Windows Central and Tom Warren days prior to The Game Awards event. And one YouTuber who actually leaked the name "Xbox Series X" a month prior to that. So, someone is talking...

obviously there are leaks, but the idea that the ceo of Nvidia would naturally have a good enough idea of an unreleased consoles performance that he could accurately comment about it seems bonkers. He shouldn’t know anything about it, but especially not enough info that he could make performance comparisons.

In my opinion it's bonkers to think he doesn't know. The chips in the consoles are made by there main competitor and if you think they don't put any effort into trying to know where AMD are at or going to be is very unlikely.

I'm not saying he has all the information or even the correct information but to compare it to pastebin leaks is foolish.

In my opinion it's bonkers to think he doesn't know.
For example, NVIDIA prepared the "Super" refresh cards well before the release or even the announcement of AMD's RX 5700 GPUs, how did they know the performance levels? How did they know that AMD is targeting a mid gen upgrade a and not a high end one? How did they know how RX 5700 stacked up against their cards and thus knew how to put the super cards slightly above Navi?

People are talking about corporate espionage as it's something holly forbidden or something, Of course it happens all the time, we are far from a perfect world or society. Companies keep taps on each other all the time, not in great details of course but the general picture at least.

No one that I have seen is claiming there's no such thing as leaks, and companies 'keeping tabs' on each other.

The question is, to what level of detail would be known above and beyond what would otherwise leak.
People thinking that Nvidia sources of a friend of a friend at the water cooler is so much better or different than journalists in the industry and 'insiders' is strange.
Or you think that someone from amd happyly speaks to an ex colleague who now works at Nvidia. When you sign an nda, and just speak to a competitor disclosing classified details that's not just friendly chit chat.

I doubt Nvidia know much more than everyone else, what they are able to do is parse things a lot better as they have more data points and internal knowledge to pull from.

Examples given of Nvidias actually shows me they didn't know much. It seems like they was ready to launch higher performance cards or drop prices but didn't when it was apparent that things like Vega wasn't as strong as amd's marketing and pr lead everyone to believe.

My company would potentially fire me if I divulged even tiny details about upcoming products to colleagues, industry contacts, friends or family. The idea that all of these companies could be giving up their competitive advantage by disclosing details in casual conversations around the office, or especially third parties, is totally foreign to me.

Yeah in the early stages but we are less than a year out and both dev kits are out there. The idea that once dev kits are out there that hundreds/thousands of developers and testers who's literal job is to discuss the performance of their games is just going to not talk about it is ridiculous. And that's the point it doesn't even have to be exact specs. Just the knowledge that games are running generally better on one system or another is all Microsoft or Sony really need to know.

The moment Sony knows the devkit will be available to more people or with new functionality, they do a Wired article. At E3 devs talked about the two next-generation consoles with journalists.

This was about Nvidia knowing the performance of next generation console to be able to say that their gpu is faster. Which is kinda silly to be saying since no actual specs has been released yet, unless their saying it's faster than twice the 1X, but that section of talk was about RT so still don't see how that works.

The only details the wired article gave was very very high level, and it's not like we've had any verified leaks considering how long the dev kits have been out.
If you have a dev kit you have a lot more information than zen 2, navi and ssd. Which apart from ssd was pretty much a given.

but that section of talk was about RT
Yes he talks about RT while the slide is shown in the background, but there is no relation from his talking to the discussed, almost hidden message on that slide.
So we discuss that single marketing slide, not his words.

And this slide says 'MaxQ 2080 > next gen console'.
What does it mean?
2060 desktop GPU is faster than PS5 GPU?
2060 + 6core CPU + SSD is faster than PS5 GPU + 8core + its SSD?
Next gen console weights less than 2.5 kg?
Laptops have longer dicks than consoles?

It means nothing. It's a marketing slide, not containing any technical info. Maybe there was a fly on the > key, oops, and it slipped, just to cause pages long discussions about nothing and some free marketing. :D

I'm pretty sure Nvidia has greater resources on gathering and evaluating its competitor’s tech than a bunch of armchair pastebin tech misfits and goalpost shifting console warriors.

True, on the other hand, they believe attention whores like this 'Klee', only because he's giving them what they want to hear. Then it's all believeble and should be taken as the truth. If the top of Nvidia makes a claim during a official presentation, it is not true though, but that's cause it is not what they want to hear. Then again, we are in the baseless section so....

Also, to be fair, if you want to round it off, this NV slide has as much worth to it as the windows central 12TF number, or the massive amount of 'journalists' that know the specs.

I wasn't talking about Nvidia.

Espionage confirmed! He must know! :O

How? Corporate spies?

Everything doesn’t have to be clandestine, although it has happened. Outside of that, tech companies don't live in private personal bubbles. They’re just as acceptable to low/high level leaks (intentional or unintentional) just like any other industry sector. This is the age of competitive intelligence data gathering and evaluation. Engineers talk. Executives talk. Partnerships (partners) talk. Industry journalist talk. Ex-employees talk. Family members talk. Friends talk.

Sociable people just fucking talk…
