Baseless Next Generation Rumors with no Technical Merits [post E3 2019, pre GDC 2020] [XBSX, PS5]

It's not really "leaked" though if information spreading through offices. I mean people working on these consoles probably wouldn't be doing their job right if they weren't discussing the specs/performance of the dev kits. Microsoft and Sony are separate companies but work in the same industry with the same studios.

Even an NDA isn't going to restrict at internal level once dev kits are out there. They all work in the same industry. They know...
That would still constitute a leak, I think, not that I'm a lawyer.

*chatting when they're not supposed to in accordance with the agreement.

If it spreads beyond, it's a leak.

But making a guess would not justify to present this as a fact when talking to investors. No matter how grounded this guess is, it's not official.

It's also bad how this was spread across gaming sites. Those journalists do not even recognize it's about mobile 2080, and neither it's the MaxQ variant.

... can get much better information here :)

Yeah, I guess you are right on that one.

Yup. Cerny's whole Wired interview was to get a jump on certain leaks surrounding PS5/SDK.
That was always the common theory, not fact.
But considering how long ago that was, where is all the quality leaks since the dev kits was going/been out now?
Cerny hardly gave any details.

The fact is nda's obviously do count for something, otherwise we wouldn't still be in the baseless thread. .

We are nobodies. That makes a difference.

So your saying leaks will only happen to people of importance.
Sounds like industrial espionage to me.

I was responding to the point that wired article was done to get in front of leaks etc

Absolutely not!
Remember, this is a business, with real people, in real offices. They talk over the water cooler, they have meetings internally, with supliers of all sorts, clients, partners etc. They make phone calls, go to conventions, talk to game devs, software devs, tool devs. They talk to journalists, they change jobs, they talk to old pals who moved on to different companies, they have intermal meetings again, share the gossip.
You see, under this much cominication nobody even needs to break any NDA. Just by connecting some dots and loos individual pieces of info that means nothing on their own, they can start building up a picture. And the more of a picture they have, the more aware they are for every next hit, and the picture gets sharper. Don't forget, also, that a lot of the big cheese at these million dollar companies are highly competitive, and business-smart. They love playing that game of trying to be ahead of their competitors and peers.
I'd bet they don't even know what is most of the crap circling around on pastebin and Digital Fucking Foundry. They have much better stuff to do.

I completely understand that. That's also exactly the same place that leaks at Resetera and Pastebins come from. People that do that at work know they are risking their job if anyone in management finds out, but they do it because they crave the attention from it.

At one of my previous work places, I saw numerous people get escorted out of the building by security for doing just this. Thank you for your time, but we don't need people with loose lips. As well as people that like to talk about things that they shouldn't talk about there's as many or more people that will report them because it'll reflect well on them when it comes time to get a raise or a promotion.

Likewise, people will make up information if it gives them the attention they seek. Sometimes they do this deliberately because they know it may "leak" out and thus spread misinformation about the project they are actually working on. These people aren't likely to be fired.

Then those people talk to other people. At which point it ends up at Resetera, Pastebins, Jen Hsun's ear, etc. Unless you are saying that Jen Hsun is hanging out at the water cooler at AMD, MS, Sony, etc. picking up the leaks first hand? Otherwise it's all 3rd hand, 4th hand, etc. talk that he's hearing.

People in corporations may be exposed to a greater amount of information, but it's essentially the same information as you'll get at Resetera and Pastebin and Twitter.

SB

Being INSIDE the industry where this rumors start from does help your chances of catching more of them.
Also, having a financial incentive to try to suppose what competitors are doing from whatever hints you can get because your job benefits from it is another thing.
Having insider information such as what software devs are doing, what the DX/Kronos/AMD/NVIDIA roadmaps are like, also helps filter out noise from things that may mean something else.
A lot of useful info can reach executives before it filters out to pastebin. And a lot of info that pastebin would not even think relevant may also help deduce more stuff about where the industry is going than we ever could to those who are right inside it and have access to some privileged data we never would.

I disagree. If you work inside the industry you have 1st and 2nd hand information sources by the personal networks the people in these projects are connected to. You know what AMD, TSMC and other companies are offering at the level of the business relationship/money involved and their time table/internal roadmaps.

In the case of MS *if* they really care they will also have the option for state intelligence backed reports to secure their investments globally as MS is a strategic relevant asset of the USA. Unless all project related communications between these different business entities are only held locally at shielded sites and not discussed on phone/video conference the NSA records it.

My company would potentially fire me if I divulged even tiny details about upcoming products to colleagues, industry contacts, friends or family. The idea that all of these companies could be giving up their competitive advantage by disclosing details in casual conversations around the office, or especially third parties, is totally foreign to me.

Sure. Yet, we had leaks from Windows Central and Tom Warren days prior to The Game Awards event. And one YouTuber who actually leaked the name "Xbox Series X" a month prior to that. So, someone is talking...

According to several sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, Anaconda is targeting around 12 teraflops (TF) of computing power, compared to the Xbox One X's 6TF, and the Xbox One S's 1.4. Lockhart conversely will sport around 4TF, and according to marketing materials we've seen previously, it is being positioned as the most-affordable entry point to next-gen experiences.
