Back from "vacation", what's missing after all E3-talk?

Sony could probably have minimised the cost of entry by simply offering the PS3 without any included peripherals at some random price. Would anyone want it? The situation is similar with the core 360 pack.

Sony's idea of entry is to compete with the less laughable 360 premium pack. This is perhaps a little too subtle.

When GTA 4 comes out next October and it costs a $380 (probably $330 by then though) to play it on Xbox and $560 to play it on PS3, then maybe you'll see the strategic value of the core system SiS/Scoob are referring to.

Granted, right now the core is setup as a very poor value, but that is due to very minor things that can easily change, namely lack of wireless controller, tiny 64mb memory card, and an overpriced 20gb hdd.

I'm not sure about huge price drops, but I expect MS will at least bundle the 64MB card with the core later this year...

That's not really a factor, just look what we pay for PC parts. If there are many more cool games for the PS3, the consumers will get PS3 (just for the sake of argument, I dunno which platform will have more/better games).

This thread wasn't started to become a price/versus/comparison thread, but to actually discuss E3 findings - or lack thereof in fact.

So please take the PS3/360 price bickering to one of the squillion other threads with that purpose, thanks. ;)

What else did we not see enough of this E3 that we expected news on?

DN4E - LOL?

Please understand that the presence of a $500 PS3 SKU doesn't suddenly make people consider the $300 360 pack more. People will continue to look at the $400 premium 360 pack, and realise that the PS3 can be had for just $100 more.

A potential customer contemplating GTA would also consider the other things he is buying a platform for, be it other games or functionality. A $100 premium could be easily justified.

Edit: sorry for the hijack, Guden Oden. If you haven't seen it yet, gamespot has an article on what you were wondering about - MIA (missing in action) at http://www.gamespot.com/news/6151269.html

I was hoping to see the keyboard/thumbboard we had seen from the leaked pics for the 360. I'm wondering if that has been scrapped, because it can't be all that hard to put that thing out. Although, it did seem to take forever for the quick charge pack to come out (forever?...machines only been out for six months...talk about wanting/needing instant gratification:devilish:)

And you have to understand that just because Sony has decided to bundle a HDD, it doesn't mean that every person in the world instantly wants one.

There are still hundreds of millions of PS1 and PS2 owners who've never even owned a HDD, yet now you claim that no-one in their right mind could live without one. Give me a break.

MS drops the HDD cost by $40, problem solved. MS bundles a 64mb MC? Problem solved. MS drops the Core price by $50? Problem solved. The core can easily be set up as a very desireable package with a couple small tweaks.

MS has *obviously* strategically priced the Core package to be undesireable, this is intentional, it's apparent they want to move more premiums at this point in time. But don't expect it to be this way forever, MS created the core package for a reason, and they'll take advantage of that. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

Yes, good that you mentioned it, I'd forgotten all about it. When I saw pics of it I thought it must be a super nifty gadget. With the wireless headset, it can just sit attached there all the time as well. Hm, provided it's actually released that is! :-?

Such a great opportunity for MS to extend the functionality of their already excellent joypad. I sure hope they release that keyboard.

I suppose the major hindrance would be the need for localized versions for tons of different countries. This is probably why we haven't seen it yet, and might actually never do. :(

In my American arrogance, I forgot about localizing the keyboard...you're right, that is probably the biggest delay. If only everyone had a keyboard like this. You would NEVER need to localize again!

EDIT: Does anyone know how many accessories there are now, I remember an early video that stated MD designed 15 of them, where does the count stand now for what we have seen? I'll look later, of course, it's hard to know if they count somethings as one item or multiple items.
