Atelier Totori: Alchemist of Arland 2 Cel Shading Galore

Gust always makes so pretty interesting games and the Atelier series is no exception but what really made me want to bring up this game is the beautiful cel shading. Here are a few pics.

What platform are these shots from? They look to be 4xMSAA adding much needed fidelity to the edges, and the cleanliness really helps. This is the first highly AA'd cel-shaded title I've seen.

Heh heh, the animation made the characters come alive.

I'm looking forward to Jin Roh or Sky Blue games. Though the Helgast have a certain Wolf Brigade look about them already...

You might be waiting a while unless you can find someone who knows Japanese it's the second of a series and the first isn't coming to the US till September by way of NIS and yeah it appears like it is only on PS3.

Well I will probably remember for the first but this game I will probably forget about until it's released and I walk by it in a store.

With all the Internet integration Sony did to PS3, they forgot to add a tracking link to PSN. :p

They should allow us to register our interest in a game via a web link, and then let our PS3 remind us when we boot up the box.

Grr being just out of college and not having a job. All reviews I've seen have loved it except for IGN and the Gamespot special addition with the art book looks nice.

The cel shading looks nice, but the actual models are kinda simplistic. Reminds me very much of what was done on the PS2...

To matters worse, the art style is very generic jRPG.

Well I got Rorona for Christmas with the art book. Guess that's not a very good sign as far as sales go but it's nice for me. I.S.T. That's part of the charm it is an art style that seems to have died sadly with last gen mostly. Not many cell shaded affairs outside the anime brawlers that are being released.

I might be more inclined to enjoy the art style if it wasn't almost always associated with soft core misogynistic child porn. :/

Heh I haven't played much of it so I'm not sure if they tend to be risque or not the art book is a bit risque at the end though. However the other Atelier games weren't very risque so who knows. I was going more for the clean cell shaded look though. It has been done very well a few times this gen but most of them seem to be on bleach and naruto games as apposed to the all the cell shaded/cartoony games we got last gen. I like realistic styles too but it seems like most of the big budget RPG's are going that route and those series of the last few gens haven't made a reappearance here.
