Asus A8V problem

with a Athlon 3500 winchester , bios 1007,system wont give video output when any ide drives are connected to the board.Any suggestions on changes i could make in setup or solutions to the problem?
Cant update the bios without floppy drive being operational.

I have a very similar problem. I have also the A8V and and a 3500+ Newcastle. Whenever trying to start the machine, there is no video signal and the hdd light is on permanently.
You could ask a friend to lend you a floppy drive or boot from cd if possible and do the Asus auto updater in windows.
