Well I used to be into them as a kid and built one about 9 years ago but have since fallen out of the hobby. Well now that i can barely walk and i can't run anymore my puppy and i have nothing to do. So i was thinking about getting back into remote controled cars. He has fun chasing my old one but it likes to stop working for no reason. I was thinking of building a new one anyone know any good sites or can offer any tips.

Heh heh ! I started playing RC cars 20+ years ago, my last bought RC car was a Yokomo YR-4 with a Novak speed controller (about 9 years ago, which is already extremely outdated now), should still be working but it had stayed in the box for at least 7 years.

jvd,

This is too funny. I was into RC cars 17 years ago. I had an electric tamiya hot shot. http://www.toyexchange.addr.com/tamcars24.html It was a blast, but soon after I turned 16 and got into full sized gas cars. =) Well, I now have 2 dogs, and I just bought a cheap electric 9.6V RC truck ($40) last week to see if my dogs would like it. They do, especially when treats are in the truck bed. I have never liked how fast the batteries die. I have thought of making my own battery packs to see if I could make some better ones, or maybe looking into gas cars, but MAN are they expensive.

well the one i had was gas it cost about 150 and would go fast enough that the dog would get a work out. But i think the engine is starting to die. It wasn't stored v ery well.

I have a methanol RC car. It's buggy style, 50cm, ~1hp, supposed to go ~70km/h. I broke in the engine properly with a fan, built the car completely except for one detail. The clutch was slightly off in dimensions, and I hadn't the tool to fix it at the time. So it's been sitting there for 15 years, never driven a single meter.
Maybe I should do something about it...

But the most interesting RC project I can think of now, and that I realy would like to try, is a kind of helicopter. It's not my idea, but the place I saw it is gone, and it would be a very interesting challenge to design the regulation.
The idea is to put four propellers on electric motors in a square, pointing straight up (fixed). Manoeuvering is done by changing the speed of the motors individually.

PS
A guy here at work were into electric RC cars (road style), and were competing in it. One car he built was so good that the rules were changed because of it. His home made anti spinn system was far too effective. :)

Never that serious into R/C cars (had a Schumacher Cougar 2 about 8 years ago and that's it) but used to race electric and IC model powerboats regularly with my dad. I think I still hold a British junior speed record of sorts in one of the classes. The IC hydros are insane.

8-10, 70mph+ boats running round a tight oval isn't exactly U-class hydro racing but it's still not bad for kicks. Plus, people put so much time and money into the damn things that it gets pretty heated at times.

MuFu.

Kick ass picture MuFu :D
A couple of years ago I used to race stadium indoor trucks(offroad), and ran a Losi XXT. I dropped out of the scene due to finances, but a few months ago I bought a team Associated TC3 onroad car(electric)...fun shit.
I've learned now to hold onto the cars & stuff, even if you lose intrest. Once you get rid of everything, you'll miss it, and eventually get back into the hobby.
I fly model rockets too ;)
