I am looking for a particular make and model that supports 480p, 720p and 1080i/540p. Has anyone see a multisystem vga box that supports said resolutions?

depends on the platform... PS2 has the (amazing) Blaze VGA box, which i made a whole thread about, and is quite a cool piece or hardware.

the GC has the official VGA cable...

the Xbox has a VGA box but i can't really remember the website, it was german...

if u look at those multi-platforms VGA boxes, then DON'T, they are total crap. all they do is filter the interlaced signal into a VGA-compatible signal (so called double-liners), which looks absolutely horrible compared to true pro-scan.

Google it, u'll find some useful links...

Hey, I have that VGA box. Not sure how it compares to others though, but it does support 480P, 720P, and 1080i/540P. Doesn't support 480i though.

Mmm @ ECTS I saw a VGA-box from a South Korean company. Looked pretty good (and wasn't that expensive too). I think it was from "Itpia". I'll look it up.

I would appreciate that Evil

London is this some kind of a hack? Does this vga box yield the same qualities as progressive scan 480p would?

That Itpia doesn't even seem to support component in, let alone progressive scan......
However, it does support vga in, can it actually upscan vga? Or is that just so you can have a dreamcast or pc hooked up too?

The best bet for a progressive scan supporting multiconsole vga adapter is the key digital transcoder
http://www.hometheaterworld.com/xblaskdcomto.html, though it does not support interlaced video at all, and thus would be useless for many ps2 games, and some gamecube.

check those threads matey,
the software "switches" pro-scan OUT on...
call it an hack if u want but it works, and yes, it is TRUE progressive scan out for those games that support Pro-scan AND all those games that do not support it BUT are rendered at full resolution (ZOE2, MGS2, SH3, and many new games).
check those threads, LOADS of details there (arguably the BEST source of details u'll find on the net about that thing...)

I have a question. why component inputs?

huh? where? what? huh?

exactly what it says on the tin. why the proliferation of component inputs on VGA/scnline boxes?

I am curious because as we all know most consoles output RGB natively just fine.

nope. still don't get the question.
VGA boxes need component inputs in order to output a pro-scan signal...
the Blaze VGA adapter is different, but we all know it's not a "normal" VGA box... it's merely a modified VGA cable (the same included in the Linux Kit). the big part is played by the software really...

good Legion. have u checked out those threads? i think there should be some kind of list of games that "can handle" it and what happens to the ones that dont...

well yes but what is the technical reason for this???

maybe because component is the standard in video equipment, whereas RGB is pretty much consoles only? plus RGB<->component conversion should be pretty clean, i.e. you hardly gain anything by providing original RGB to the VGA box. but all that's just my speculation ;)
